AMC to remake "The Prisoner"

AMC is going to remake The Prisoner with Jim Cavaziel as Number 6 and Ian McKellan as Number 2. The 6 part miniseries is set to air 2009.

If there was one thing I could wave my hands and keep from being remade, this would be it. I am such a huge fan, but I think it's a thing of its time. At *best* it could baffle some as the original did, but this puts a remake under pressure to give "answers"--and if they "answer" the Prisoner, it will inevitably be disappointing.

We're discussing this in SF/F too. People are being amazingly open-minded about it; I thought it would be a bitchfest. With Caveziel and AMC onboard (they have a rep to maintain), I'm willing to go into it with an open mind. McKellen is maybe too "obvious" as Number Two - I like the way Caveziel wouldn't have been on anyone's list for this role, yet seems kinda right.

Given it's own style, and not trying to be an exact copy, I think it could be a fantastic. They have great actors on board, they seem to be giving themselves plenty of time to work on it, and the writer seems to understand that it's not something he should do lightly. So I think it could all come together and work.
