Ambassador Class USS Adventure Exterior + Interior WIP

WinstonSmith

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Hey, thought I'd share what I've been tinkering on while not busy on real life stuff. I've always been fascinated with Andrew Probert's original concept for the Ambassador class, which was famously rejected in favour of the more 'practical' Enterprise C model presented in 'yesterday's enterprise'. There have been a few takes on Probert's concept over the years but I thought it was high time I had a stab at re-interpreting it myself. Below is presented some work in progress modelling of the 'proto-ambassador' class USS Adventure. I've also started work on some of the interiors, trying to imagine an architecture and design language that's all around a bit more rough and ready than the comfort of TNG, but which is still in the same vernacular (though incorporating a bit of retro TOS and TOS movie flare). Enjoy! any feedback or advice is appreciated, as like I said I'm primarily tinkering on this in my spare time; there's plenty little details left to fix I'm sure ;)

Wow, this is all very cool! I love your modifications to the exterior, particularly the Excelsior-style impulse assembly.

The bridge looks really nice, a cool combination of styles and eras. I do have some feedback which, in my opinion, would make it look better:
  • I love the overall TOS colors, but combined with the very bright lighting it makes everything look very sterile. I'd either add some darker colors (or light absorbing materials like carpeting), or lower the lighting intensity.
  • The bridge ceiling, while era appropriate, looks weird for a circular bridge, I'd suggest a dome-like structure instead, this will not only flow better with the walls, but also make the bridge a bit taller, which would make it look a bit more balanced IMO.
  • The helm stations located outside the central area is something very iconic of the Voyager era ships. Ships from the Enterprise-era all the way to the Enterprise-C had the helm located at the very center of the bridge, I'd move the pit there. Right now it looks like the Captain will have to yell to get listened. :p
Those are just my two cents, feel free to ignore them :) I do love what you have here, some details like the Enterprise-D style tactical station that transforms into a TOS style railing are very cool.

Oh, my gosh those interiors are AMAZING!!!!!!!111!!11 one one1

Those corridors look like a perfect transitional design between ST and TMP.

You've astutely picked up that I was originally thinking of doing this bridge as a dominion war era ambassador refit - there's a few bits and pieces which still betray that later styling which I'm in the process of changing (though as a somewhat 'transitional' design, even with the retro TOS-revival styling I don't mind incorporating a few hints at what will come in the following decades). In light of that shift to a more transitional, pre-TNG 'retro' styling I don't mind it looking a bit more 'sterile' and clinical than we're used to from 24th century design; the idea is really that this is the sleek and modernist 60's/70's (think 2001 or Space 1999) ancestor of TNG's friendly pink and beige 80s 'living room' aesthetic. In that regard I've tried to take some hints from the Enterprise D battle bridge (and the TVH bridge that it's redressed from) in presenting a more utilitarian kind of pre-TNG style. (Also, I must admit that your work on the USS Odyssey bridge gave me the idea for the combined railing/horseshoe so thanks for that hahah! ;) )

Already started testing out some ideas for the ceiling and helm console now, moving the latter to a more traditional position in the central area and exploring a dome arrangement based on the ENT-A from TFF/TUC. Also trying out a 'moodier' lighting scheme that's a bit closer to the battle bridge/TVH look. Not sure if its too dark now so I might continue to tweak that some.

Love the original placing of the Helm!! I say, leave it where it was!

As for the three chairs.... I always thought that was silly. Your centerpit is pretty huge. There's room for two additional stations there, one for the first officer and a second mission specialist console, like where Seven would usually stand on the bridge of Voyager. It would make sense for a mission specialist to have a station close to the commanding officer. I never understood why the first officer would just sit next to the captain all the time. He/she has work to do, might as well have a dedicated station to do it at!

In earlier CGI images of Probert's C, I was sort of unhappy with the shape of the secondary hull. I didn't like how the hull got so fat in front of where the nacelles were attached. Can you provide a blueprint-ish view of your version from the top?

Thanks for all the positive feedback everyone! Still tinkering away on this from time to time but as always real life and distractions get in the way ;) Thought I'd post another view of the bridge with the new ceiling;

I've also been working on some new corridors which may or may not end up as part of this project in combination with the ones above (or who knows, I might mash them together or go with something completely different again);

As well I've been experimenting on designs for the flight deck and main engineering (still very WIP);

And I'll try and work up some ortho views for the exterior as well and share them soon!

I like that you're trying to aim for a bridge between the movie Okudagrams and later LCARS; I've been doing something similar on SFM. :) The bridge overall is nice (I love that forward low railing!) but I think it could stand to be a touch warmer, as the cold look seems out of place between the Ent-B / Ent-D eras. Nice Flight Deck, too!

As far as the exterior is concerned, I like the use of the wider impulse deck, but perhaps it could be a little more integrated, or curved to match the saucer hull a bit? The neck would also look better thicker IMO, and with a taper as per the concepts, otherwise you're taking a step back compared to the Excelsior and later Ent-D both.

That's my tuppence anyway FWIW; keep going! It's always great to see designs from this era :)
