Am I the only one...

Am I the only one who is saddened by the distinct lack of genre anthology series on pay cable anymore? I mean, all growing up they were a staple of the late night line ups on HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, ect. Such greats as Tales from the crypt, The Outer Limits, Perversions of Science...

While I love that they have brought "classic" style tv shows to these networks such as Dexter, Weeds, Deadwood, ect, I do miss the anthologies and long for their return to the late night pay lineup.

A return for a show akin to The Outer Limits or The Twilight Zone would be more than welcome.

I used to LOVE Tales from the Crypt...our local independent station (in the days before UPN and WB) showed edited versions of that and the one hour version of MST3K late on Saturday nights, along with the new version of The Outer Limits. I agree...it is high time one of the premium networks did an anthology series again...

Never saw tales from the darkside, myself...

I really miss tales from the crypt and outer limits myself. I loved those shows.

Remember Monsters? It was a show very much like Outer Limits or TZ. I hope they do come back around soon...

A new anthology series would be great, but there have been a couple of minor attempts in the past few years that failed. Perhaps HBO should produce one.

Not putting down you fans, but I think all post 1960's anthology shows were utter crap.

But I never watched Night Gallery, so maybe just all post 1970's anthology shows were utter crap.

I think the genre anthology show's place, like the t.v. western, came and went...and attempts to resurrect it have been not-so-good.

There was no reason to watch anything but the last five minutes of the new Outer Limits:

OMG, EARTH DESTROYED.

or

CLICHED HORROR MOVIE ENDING.

or

GENERIC MORAL ENDING.

Tales from the Darkside was so cheap that the entire run of the series cost less than one episode of Tales from the Crypt. I watched on episode on Sci-Fi (whatever happened to that network?) which I think was filmed on betamax (the one with the 80's chick in the puritan New England past...by past, I mean, a two room set.) The opening credits were creepy, though.

UPN's Twilight Zone was not watchable. LET'S UPDATE THE FAMOUS PIG FACED SURGERY EPISODE...ONLY MAKE IT AN HOUR AND UNCOMPELLING.

It is notable that there isn't one somewhere. Guess the trend ran its course for now.
