I'm with EMH -- "Pug" seems most appropriate for the little terrier.

I couldn't dream of calling her "Gilly" as that's the name of a character of whom I'm very fond, the eponymous "Great Gilly Hopkins" from Katherine Paterson. I was priveleged to work on the premiere of the play adapted from that book by Paterson's son, David, in both Louisville and New York. The fictional Ms. Brown can't hold a candle to Galadriel Hopkins, a.k.a. "Gilly."
