Alternate Voyagers 2: The Undiscovered Reset

For this installment, lets consider what might have happened to the Voyager crew had the traumatic events of "Year of Hell" not been purged from the timeline?

Specifically, I'm wondering how a clearly PTSD afflicted Janeway would have responded to an equally shell shocked Captain Ransom and the crew of the Equinox. Ransome was right about one thing in the original "Equinox" two parter, it was easy for Janeway to be holier than thou when her ship and crew were in excellent condition. However, we know that when things were less than ideal, Janeway was clearly willing to ditch protocol and do what she thought best to protect her crew. How wouold she react to seeing a mirror image of herself in the far more traumatized Ransome?

The haters wouldn't complain that Janeway was self-righteous against Ransom for killing aliens for fuel, because they'd have seen for themselves that even when things went to Hell Janeway never dropped to his level.

Right, I don't understand quite what you're getting at there Anwar, so you might need to rephrase or explain it... :/

Aaaanyways answering the original post, I think that had year of hell not been purged from the timeline Janeway would probably have objected, but very easily been talked round to joining in. Also, the Equinox would have been the "tactically superior vessel" had one of them decided to pull out that peach of a regulation that Janeway quoted (I could actually link it but I don't want to seem like that much of a loser ;) ) so he could have ordered her to murder those life-forms!

It sure would have been interesting.

Have you thought about writing a fanfic on it? I'd read it.

You actually saw the time line where "Year of Hell" wasn't reset. It is the episode "Before and After."

The haters whine that since Janeway wasn't incompetent enough to let her ship and crew get trashed like Ransom did, she had no right to talk down to him for what he did. If they made Year of Hell last (which would have cost too much) then Janeway WOULD have gone through a period where the ship and crew got trashed and so her rejection of Ransom would be more powerful in their eyes as she HAD been through similar experiences without giving into pressure to do amoral stuff.

Well, at the end of Year of Hell, didn't Janeway ram her ship down their enemies' throats, killing everyone on board? Or are you saying, Year of Hell minus suicide ending? -- RR

That didn't make sense though, because the Krenim were apparently in two different places...

Braga wrote "Before and After" with the intention of the S3 finale leading into Year of Hell for all of S4. Then when UPN said no but told him to make Year of Hell a two-parter he came up with Scorpion for the S3 finale. Someone else used Kes for the major LY jump soon afterwards and then they met the Krenim. So it no longer made perfect sense as they had deviated from Braga's original idea.

I guess in the "Kes stays" future she experienced something else must have happened to throw them that far in LY.
