ALTERNATE HISTORY new show on spike tonight premire:

timothy

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
first episode "nazis win ww2" this is going to be a fantastic new show with a perfect line up with deadlist warrior.
this is going to be fun so much history out there and to play with. I just wish this was a hour program.

:cardie::eek::wtf::cardie::wtf::eek::cardie:
if this is in the wrong spot some one move for me please if not that's cool.

Watched it, since there's nothing else on like it I'll probably continue to watch it. But I think their idea that technology would continue to develop the same exact way after the Nazi's nuke New York and Boston is ludicrous.

it was fun to watch, though i seriously doubt Germany could actually produce two atomic weapons. i was hopeful they might actually look at how events could have played if different decisions were made. like Hitler attacking Russia or letting the British escape Dunkirk.

Wow, timothy - great find! :bolian: I love alt-history! I've set up a series recording, this will be fun.

Can't find the series description on spike (???), but futon critic has this:

What if Hitler and the Nazis won World War II? What if JFK had never been assassinated? What if the South won the Civil War? What would these alternate worlds be like? "Alternative History" looks at "what if" scenarios from some of history's most pivotal turning points and presents a completely different version based on science and fact. The series will use state of the art animation to present these alternative histories in a hyper-stylized manner. Each episode will culminate in an exploration of how the world today would look if these changes had occurred.

PS, anyone who missed it, check your DVR listings, the Nazi episode is replaying tomorrow at 3:39pm.

I object to the HISTORY channel doing shows about aliens at all :D but they're working on some historical fiction shows so I guess they can make it up to me.

Ancient Aliens isn't specifically to do with aliens Temis. It is a pretty awesome show. I have to check out this Alternate History series. Don't get Spike any more so will probably have to see if I can watch online somehow.

Okay I saw the Nazi episode. They had me going at the start, I was getting mad at my DVR for taping the wrong episode, one of those stupid border wars shows...:rommie:

Some unintentional humor with Hitler on Mt Rushmore and Goebbels instead of Google. And speaking of that, the internet-related segment was silly. A Nazi-occupied government would never create an internet with no centralized control. They might not create a communication system at all that's designed to let people talk with each other. If they did, it would be centrally controlled, heavily monitored, and therefore worse than useless for organizing a resistance.

The half hour format is frustrating because really they can only skim the surface of the topic. They make the assumption that Americans would "naturally" fight off the Nazi invaders sooner or later, but could the Nazis actually squelch loyalty to democracy within a generation, assuming there were no prominent examples of powerful democracies left to serve as inspiration, which there wouldn't be?

In that case, fascism would seem like the "natural victor" over democracy, which is too weak to survive. There would be a very different set of assumptions compared with the world we're all used to, where democracy has steadily expanded within the lifetimes of everyone alive today and we can see it still expanding on the news. What happens when people are seeing nothing but the opposite?

The saving grace for American freedom would probably be the non-Aryan segment of the population, who will have no choice but to fight, regardless of whether anyone on Earth still thinks democracy is possible. They'd fight just for survival.

I know the begining of the show was a little messed up was'nt it. I was hopeing for a hour program. so far no new episode for next week, argh. any one here a turtledove fan?

Yeah what gives with the schedule anyway?

I want to see them tackle "the consequences of dinosaurs surviving" in 30 minutes, including commercials. :rommie: What kind of internet would velociraptors invent?

Thanks for the tip. I'm recording the re-airing tomorrow (assuming I have power), and I set up a series recording on my dvr.

Yeah, Turtledove. Not the best-but certainly th emost prolific.
Try Silverberg's Gate of Worlds. Better tale than all but Guns of the South, IMO.
