Alternate ending to the episode where neelix leaves

Why is it so important that Neelix end up in the Alpha Quadrant . . . especially after he had fallen in love for the first time, since Kes?

Because I want all the main characters available for future adventures in books. As for love, why don't send him to Risa on vacation?

Anyway, Neelix could possible find true love somewhere else as well. I'm sure there's a planet in the Alpha Quadrant where a talented Talaxian could find someone. Or maybe he could persuade Dexa to follow him to Earth.
