In my opinion the Star Trek we had this year was just an introductory to get us use to this re imagining in the modern form. Concensus showed that it worked out beautifully and our beloved franchise has been resurrected from the dead and THAT IS A FACT.
Now, I bet the sequel will be even bigger with a much more complex storyline. I have a feeling they want the new movies series to inspire our generation and makes us wonder about the deep mysteries of life. Honestly I think this is what they intend to accomplish judging from all the interviews I read.
If I'm right, ST 2 will shock the hell out of us like the Dark Knight did in summer 2008.
So what do you all think?
I will admit, even though I was against the whole JJ reboot, I did enjoy the film for what it was, which still wasn't much. But it was a fun two hours. However...
Here is the really sad part... as far as science-fiction goes, the ONLY two movies of ANY worth this year, have been
"Star Trek", and
"District 9", and of the two,
"District 9" is the only one that could come CLOSE to the level of quality that was
"Dark Knight". The trouble with JJ, is that his style of film making is too close to Michael Bay's... lots of lens flare and action, with little plot.
The first reboot of
"Transformers" was actually a pretty fun movie for me to watch... but
"Revenge of the Fallen" sucked so badly, that I can't even put into words how crappy a film it was. And I think this is because Michael Bay got full of himself, and figured that if he had one Transformers blockbuster, that his audience would eat up anything he gave them to follow that.
I HOPE JJ does not make this mistake with a Star Trek sequel. It will have to be better than the first in every way, and I'm hoping it is... I truly hope that JJ and company fix all the problems they had, nail down a solid and consistent look, and work out a fresh, original, and gripping story for us all, that will both have lots of entertainment value, and substance to it. But the way Hollywood has been going recently, I'm not too sure JJ won't get as complacent as Michael Bay got.
