All my sketchup files are gone

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
So we just got a new computer and my wife transfered all our files to the new computer. Unfortunately, she didn't know about my sketchup files and she moved them, then saved them to CD (maybe), and transfered them (maybe).

But now I can't find them on either computer or discs. Only one .skp file can be found. As well as a few .png files, but I don't care about those.

I am sad because I was working on a new freighter project that I put a lot of bloody time into.

Oh well. C'est la vie, eh?

:vulcan:

Ouch man, that sucks. Try doing a slow, clean, methodical search. Also, look into some of that software that can "undelete" files. Did you check the trash bin on both PC's?

Good idea. I didn't think of recovery programmes.

At least I still have the "stills" on wordpress. Maybe I'll just rebuild them all. Bigger. Better... With the new computer comes less frustration.

I'd suggest Zero Assumption Recovery.

I completely lost an old HDD the other month, and it recovered everything. It took about a solid days worth of numbercrunching in order to recover it, but it did work like a charm.

Recovery programs can do wonders, they saved my ass a few times until now.

By the way, how can a simple transfer make the files on the source disappear? You have put some effort to actually move the files on to a removable volume and/or a CD instead of just copying them.

And one more remark: If you bought a completely new computer, you could just network them together and copy the files over the network, but that's another story.

I've had issues with storing skp files on disc before. One moment they'll be there, then everything but the file name is gone. I'm suspect it's a software issue on my now old computer.

I suggest waterboarding for information. Why did you let your wife transfer your files? ;)

I don't know... I really don't know. I spent so much time on them. And it's not like she doesn't know what she's doing. But she just didn't know where these files were.

Oh well :weep:... No biggy I guess. But I will be storing them on both disc and external memory cards this time.

If you love something, set it free.

If it doesn't come back, it was never meant to be.

So you'll have to hunt it down and kill it!
