All-Juice Fast/Diet

Anyone ever done a juice fast/all-juice diet? I saw this docu called "Fat, Sick, And Nearly Dead", and I think I am going for it. Got me a sweet Jack Lalanne Power Juicer, and I am experimenting with some combinations, with intent to go for 10 days minimum.

Thoughts or experiences?

Sounds like a worthless fad to me, and might actually be harmful.

The whole notion of “detoxing” your system, whether with fasting, extreme dietary regimens, so-called “colon cleansing,” or whatever, is nonsense anyway. Normally, your body does a perfectly good job of detoxifying itself. That’s what you have a liver and a pair of kidneys for.

Anyone with medical expertise want to weigh in here?

Step one ... stop putting the damn toxic shit into your body in the first place.
Drink tons of clean water.
Take a good multi-vitamin.
Brush your teeth (seriously).
I like protein powder mix, with sugar free soy milk.

Drinking non-sugared juice you make yourself from actual fruits can't be bad for you. But living just off that even for only 10 days doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

Hi...,
I am not agree with you on this point.According to my point of view and experience it is very helpful to maintain health level in your life.Fat is the name of over limit use of it in your life. What you say about my opinion?

I suspect you could transition into just being Sick, And Nearly Dead. So that's an improvement, at least. :D

Seriously, as with all similar topics, if you understand nutrition and physiology, you can do lots of things to your body that would otherwise be unhealthy/dangerous if you don't know what you're doing. It's certain very possible to construct a juice based diet that will be healthy enough to survive on for a certain period of time, regardless of the more wacky stuff about "detoxing".

But if you're having to ask, you don't know what you're doing, so the more generic advice of sticking to a balanced, healthy diet probably holds.

Great documentary. It's certainly not a lifestyle you can live with, but that's not what Joe Cross is advocating. Rather, balanced, clean and healthy living all kick-started through a process of flushing your system with a "juice-fast." As long as you have the OK from a doctor, I don't see the problem.

But "flushing" is silly and useless. Why not just switch directly to a more balanced diet if that's your ultimate goal?

I saw the same doc, and while I give the guy credit for trying to inspire others to live healthier, several parts are obviously staged (the guy really wants you to buy his juicer) and there are big holes in his logic (early man didn't just eat plants, he ate meat!).

Plus, the obese guy started juicing and exercising at the same time. So maybe it was the exercise that really made him lose weight, or the fact that he cut out the gallons of soda and buckets of burgers and fries and hours of stress and boredom on the road (trucking). They never address that there's more than one factor at work here.

IMO, a healthy balanced diet is much better for you than this.

Certainly, fruits and veggies are good for you, and should be a huge part of your diet. But I have not seen any evidence that juicing is better for you. And since it is not a maintainable lifestyle change, sort of pointless anyway.

Plus, your body needs protein...and that is very difficult to get from juicing.

A balanced healthy diet is a better long-term solution. And if you don't know how to do that...and especially if you are doing this to lose weight, I would recommend Weight Watchers. They teach you how to eat right and exercise regularly - a much better long-term solution.

Years ago, long before juice fasts were popular, I did a few three-day liquid fasts (juice, water and probably herbal tea). I don't know that they really did any good, but I do remember feeling good on them. Wouldn't recommend doing any more than three days, though.

If I was going to purge my body of all toxins I don't thing I would do it with something that has as much sugar as fruit does. That's kind of like cleaning the grease off your car with mud.

Exactly. Regardless of what you put into it, your body doesn’t work like a toilet.
