Alien Prequel Officially In Trouble:Lost Writer Doing Script Draft

Just read on AICN.

Damon Linedlof has been commissioned to work on a rewrite of the Alien prequel script.

I guess this means the space jockey will wake up in heaven and all his buddies will be there in a church with him......or something.

Maybe instead of the xenos we will have smokey the bear monsters that will be part nano-tech but also ghosts of cast members who were fired for DUIs?

My interest in this film, which was tenuous until now has officially sunk.

Shame because I was really looking forward to just seeing another Alien film by Ridley Scott.

You seem to be under the impression that Lindeloff will have a free hand to write whatever the heck he wants to and that he'll want to write gibberish that doesn't mean anything. Don't forget that this is a Hollywood movie and he'll be working under a major director. He won't have a free hand. He's basically just a glorified scribe who will put down on paper whatever the heck Scott wants him to put down. The only reason Scott doesn't do it himself is he isn't a writer.

The fact that you have no interest in it now makes me want to see it even more. The guy's been nothing but successful.

:rommie:

Same here. Best endorsement possible!

But if I were Linedlof, with all the options he must have now, I'd find something more interesting to do than try to help revive a played-out franchise. Oh well, the money's probably good.

Oh, I forgot, since he wrote about what you described once, he must only know how to write about that.

I must have missed that when reading my Hulk/Woverine comics. Strange.

I'm pretty sure Ridley Scott has had the rough plot bubbling in the back of his mind for some years now. Given the way most of his films seem to be developed, he'll be very involved with the script writing. He's one of those directors that develops his own projects rather than just buying screenplays as is.

not sure if that was sarcasm, (which btw there really should be a sarcasm button, kind of like Staple's Easy button, but snarkier, for online purposes I dunno maybe a picture of Spike from Buffy or Joel McHale or somebody else) but isn't that exactly what he's doing in Star Trek reboot? All in all, I'm all for it. He's still pretty talented. I mean c'mon Nash Bridges anyone?

I had no idea Damon Lindelof was involved in this film. I may have to see it now because I love the guy's work. He's a fantastic writer.

Hmmm I thought this was already filming.
As of about 60 days ago it was stated, by Ridley Scott himself, as being in Pre-Production.
Scott went on to reveal that Jon Spaihts (The Darkest Hour) had written a screenplay for the first film and that pre-production had begun on both projects.
So the Damon Lindelhof news either means pre-production lead us to this development and he is rewriting the first prequel on the first film
set to do a rewrite on the script for Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel.
OR perhaps that the first film is shooting(IMDB says it is, which isn't always accurate) and that Lindelhof is only involved in the second prequel.
Does this mean the second Alien prequel Ridley Scott has in the pipeline will be unrelated to the first?

I wonder how likely it is to see a 2011 release at this point? :shifty:
From the Ridely Scott link:
The first Alien prequel will likely arrive in regular and 3D theaters in the U.S. by late 2011, with the second film following in 2012.

Hope I didn't make that too hard to read.

Yes, and Akiva Goldsman's screenplays for A Beautiful Mind and Batman and Robin were identical in almost every way.
