Alien info?

Let's face it, Vulcans have been done to death. Klingons? Sick of them. However, a few other races really could have used some more exploration. I loved what Enterprise was doing with the Andorians. I would have loved to have seen more with the Tellarites.

How about you. What race had they just scratched the surface with? What race would you have really liked to have learned a lot more about? I'm not counting from books. I mean only on-screen, canonical reference.:bolian::vulcan::cardie::rommie::borg::klingon::alienblush:

Vendorian, from the TAS episode "The Survivor," they were a large cephalopod species. Yes, they were also a race of shape shifters and that's been done to death, but the look of them is what I think is the interesting part about the Vendorians.

This is a fairly complete listing of all Star Trek alien race names.

Terra Prime. I know they're not aliens, but I still found the concept interesting. When the Federation formed, I'm sure the remaining adherents would've had no choice but to leave Earth. Perhaps they started a new civilization elsewhere.

Were Vulcans ever really done to death? Maybe in Enterprise, but that was DOA in the first place.

I wished that they had stuck to a bible of core races similar to B5 and developed them all a bit more. Somebody should have put a limit on the number of new humanoid races they were allowed to feature in each season so that the writers had either to integrate an existing race or come up with a non-humanoid race. The aliens prepared for phase II could have been fleshed out nicely. More Tholians and Gorn would have been good too.

The piecemeal nature of Trek's aliens means we get far too many one-shot wonders. Many aspects of those one-shot aliens could have been integrated into better developed existing aliens. I loved what they did with the Klingons, Andorians, Vulcans, Tellarites, Orions, Bajorans, Cardassians, Ferengi (although less of a joke would have been better), Founders, Jem Hadar, Tamarians, Borg, Species 8472, and Vidiians (apart from the convenient cure).

But seriously, Suliban, Zak-dorn, Bolians, Ktarians, Napean, Hallean, etc. What WAS the point and why couldn't the plot points used have been integrated into an existing race? Romulans and Trill were poorly handled too in my view. For example, speaking of the race as a whole, what are the defining characteristics of a non-joined Trill?

I also loathe betazoids with a passion (I quite like Marina and Majel but the idea of the blithely telepathic race was shockingly handled). They were one-trick ponies who, unlike the telepaths in B5, had the ability to ruin most mystery plots instantly and had no compunctions about invading other races' privacy, even if they aren't all as up-front about it like Lwaxana. Compare this to the enigmatic Deltans whose nebulous empathic abilities were not the focus of the race or even Miranda Jones, who had much more in common with the B5 telepaths.

They needed to feature more races that looked like humans, but had funny foreheads.

Replace "more" with "no," and that's my idea.

The world needed more on the Sheliak. Maybe a mini-series. Or a cable show all about a bold Sheliak Pest Control cruiser, going around exterminating humanoid infestations. Maybe something steamy, like Sheliak belly-dancing...
I dunno.
Is annoying that you can't find a good Sheliak costume around anywhere! What's up with the slack marketing?

Nausicaans, Andorians, Trill, Gorn, Hirogen, and Romulans all need more work in my opinion, I'd love to learn more about them as well as v'tosh'katur Vulcans, I'm sure there are more than just the crew of the Vahklas and Sybok.

The Trill (I'd love to learn more about their culture and the symbionts. Also, what about an unjoined Trill as a regular/recurring character?) and the Romulans (they make for great villains).

1. Breen---very important to the Dominion War Arc, but we learned next to nothing about them.

2. Tholians---seen, what, twice--once on TOS and once on ENT? Those guys were name-dropped about 50 times over the years. When it comes to Alpha/Beta superpowers, it always seemed like they were probably 4th, behind the UFP, the Klingons, and the Romulans.

3. Andorians---ENT gave us a few tidbits, but not nearly enough.

4. Tellarites---founding members of the UFP, and we know virtually zero about them.

5. Bolians---ubiquitous and virtually unknown to us.....weird contradiction.

6. Vadwaar---I read somewhere that they were intended to be a major, ongoing threat on VOY, but the plug was pulled. I like the idea that they were the big dogs on the block long ago, and are itching to make a comeback.

7. The Children of Tama---"Darmok" is in my TNG Top Five, so I would really like to have learned more about these guys.

8. The Changelings---no, really! I don't think we learned nearly enough about these beings. IMHO, their collective mind is waaaay more interesting than the Borg's.

The Tarellians. Giant space-dwelling creatures: space whales, space jellyfish, etc. Any of those long-extinct galactic civilizations with cool technology they keep running across.

I'm sick of Klingons too.

I can agree with all of these - except Bolains and the Children of Tama.

- The Ferengi, well at least more depth/complexity in them. We saw that Klingons believed in honour, but were not always honourable. So how about a sect of Ferengi that did not believe in profit? Or even rival interpretations of the Rules of Acquisition?

- The Tzenkethi. The DS9 episode was the first we had ever heard of them, yet they were so powerful that a war would destablise the Alpha Quadrant lol. It would have been cool if they showed them on screen, and they were feline like in appearance. It would be high costs in make-up, but it would be little different to a Klingon, Ferengi, or Jem'Hadar episode (especially when a lot of these races were shown at one time).

- The Prophets. They need to be clarified once and for all. Are they transcended Bajorans, from far in the future (so saying "We are of Bajor" would make sense then)? Are they the species that created the Bajorans thousands or even millions of years ago? Why did they create the wormhole?

The Tholians and the Andorians. I'd also like to learn about the origin of the Borg, but not see them in any other way, after what Voyager did to them.
