Alcatraz from JJ Abrams: to be sf/f

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
And Jorge Garcia has been cast.

The project, described to be "about secrets and the most infamous prison of all time," centers on a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who reappear in the present day. It chronicles the efforts of a team of FBI agents to track them down and unravel the mystery behind their disappearance thirty years prior. Garcia will play the hippy geek Dr. Diego Soto, the world's foremost expert on Alcatraz.
Eh, I was kinda hoping it would be set during the heydey of Alcatraz and not be sf/f at all. Still, of course I'll check it out.

Is he going to cock tease us with a big mystery for five seasons before not delivering on any goods in the final season/episode?

I thought he was too busy ruining Star Trek to also produce a tv series?

What he seems to do is make 6-7 episodes of a show, and then ditch it, so his name is attacted to it when he goes off and does something else.

And if you follow Star Trek (1)2 news it seems no one making it really cares about it, they are picking their nose.

Wait...did I miss something? When did the guy who made Lost, Alias, and the latest Star Trek movie stop being awesome? We nerds are so fickle.

He was never awesome to needs was he? He seems to be awesome to people who can't function their brains correctly.

Everyone in the show is dead. We've been following ghosts that roam Alcatraz.

I'm calling it.
"This is the afterlife, John/Jack/Joe/Other Boring Everyman Name. You and your friends rebuilt Alcatraz to find one another, because those years you spent here at this dirty, brutal, depressing hellhole...were the most important years of your lives."

It's not yet clear from that description that the show will be SFF, although I wouldn't bet against it. If it is an SFF show that'll add to what is already a huge number of SFF shows in development by the broadcast networks for the 2011/2012 season, well above the normal number and way above the slim number developed for the 2010/2011 season.

The number of pilots is a little high, but not that out of the ordinary. Let's see how many of these shows get picked up for a series before getting too excited.

Edited: I looked back at past development seasons to make sure I was comparing apples to apples and actually you're right, it's a little over the norm, but I overstated earlier. I was looking at all development for 2011/2012 (including scripts not yet ordered to pilot) whereas I only had in mind actual pilots shot from previous development seasons.

Sure, as always.
