Airline in Thailand hiring Transgendered air hostesses.

It's interesting that it seems to be both transgendered and transvestites. And while it's great that the company is dropping its discriminative policies, the term "Ladyboy" seems a bit condescending.

Well, Thailand is much more liberal concerning TGs and TVs than the western countrys, so it comes to a surprise to me to learn that there is still discrimination against them when it comes to employment. I'm not sure an all-kathoey way is the best solution to this, though. I think that a quota system would have been better, so that kathoey work side by side with genetic women (and the passengers are kept oblivious as to which his air hostess actually is). That is a far better way to get social acceptance for minorities.

And, actually, "Ladyboy" seems to be the best known translation of "Kathoey", which is how the third gender is referred to in Thailand. (See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kathoey)

All I know about Thailand is it's the place everyone goes to have sex with little children.

I watch too many Dateline specials.

Well Thailand can't help but be more liberal - TG'ering is worth a lot of money to the local economy there - not to mention that some of the best surgeons in the field work there.

Maybe it's like in English, where "gay" is commonly used as a synonym for "homosexual", but can also be used in a pejorative sense.

sent the link to a friend from school who's TG'd (she had her surgery there and has been back serveral times accompanying friends who were going under the knife) and well it's a case of looks can be decieving.

Bascially the government is very hostile towards them, they are excluded from millitary service on the grounds of "mental defect", the Buddist monks think it's the result of a sexual indiscretion in a previous life, can't marry, can't get new birth certificate and ID and there's a section within the government that would like to ban it.

I saw some of them on my trip to Thailand last year. I could NOT believe how gorgeous and feminine some of them were. Thai ladyboys are way cuter than Thai girls imho.

@Marc: I didn't know that. Quite interesting (in a sad way). Well, I guess there's narrow-minded people in every country.

I agree this is cool news... no reason someone should be denied a job just because of what they are.

Yep, I pretty much only go for tans girls these days....it's a pansexual guy's (like myself) dream come true.

Plus they are more feminine than most genetic females, who seem to take their femininity for granted often these days.
