I've finished reading the last of the 'M' novels, AaDB, and I really liked and easily rank it as my third favourite novel even if the climatic ending at the Sea House was quite silly and somewhat predictable, although to be fair the preceeding chapters which had the race for the Lazy Gun locked in a hightech (and boobytrapped) tower and when Sharrow was taken to some underground paramilitary complex straight out of James Bond or Austin Powers, were excellent.
I also like the setting of the Golter system too, with it's fragmented and anarchic political system, where you have corporations and religious orders that are even more influencial than the mostly defanged nation states united under bloated World Court (where Count Geis' various organizations and the Huhzs cult, Scientologists on steroids, are able to deploy literal armies with comparative impunity).
Like in Consider Phlebas and Matter (to a lesser extent), nearly all of the likable characters die, so it seems a little OTT yet again.
