After 23 Years, Still No 10pm Programming On Fox?

I still wonder why Fox still does not have any 10:00 - 11:00 pm programming since its creation in 1986. Fox has clearly solidified it's postion as the 4th major network. In the begining they did not have enough programs to cover that slot, but thats not the case these days. You would think they would want add programming so they can pull in more adverising revenue. The only thing I can think of is that this was some type of deal with there local affiliates to allow them to cover the slot with news or some other type of programming?

I'm in the Boston area and we have news at 10, but last year they put on news at 11 also (so its on at 10 and 11), so I thought Fox might have been preparing for taking that slot and telling their local affilates to transition there News to 11:00pm, but that has not happened.

.it's probably simple.... fox news get's high ratings.;)

If they don't have anything awesome to fill the time with, the news is a pretty good option. Lots of people want nightly news but want to see it earlier than 11 (10 in AZ). I'm sure the slot is very highly rated.

FOX affiliates are not "classic" network affiliates. By getting their news on at 10, they face less competition than if their news was on at 11pm. I doubt they would even want FOX content on at 10pm.

And given the recent collapse of NBC and what they're planning for the fall with Leno five nights a week at 10 pm, Fox is probably looking pretty smart right now keeping their schedule smaller.

Yeah, in this regard, I don't think it will be long before the Eye and the Alphabet follow the Peacock and the... Fox. ;)

Truth be told, with more competition and less TV being watched overall, the networks are going to have to cut back a little on programming to survive. Unfortunately, that means that a lot of good ideas will probably never see the light of day. At the same point, it may actually bring about more competition and originality in programs... or more reality crap.

Fox tried 10 p.m. programming on sunday in the mid-90's. Fox affiliates would often preempt it for their local news. This pushed shows like WHOOPS! and THE BEN STILLER SHOW (after time slot change) into time slots that no one watched...except me.

Fox has TONS of TV shows that get good/decent ratings and not enough room for all of them. NBC has garbage shows no one bothers watching.

So most Fox affiliates run news at 10? Huh. The Buffalo affiliate in my cable package has always shown Seinfeld reruns.

I don't think Fox news has ever gotten me anything, let alone high ratings.

Oh, you mean "gets", my bad.

;)

Actually the 9/10pm slot on Fox is for local news, not national news and even the 10/11pm slot is local news broadcast as Fox has no network nightly newscast (as NBC, CBS and ABC do.)

I actually dont agree with that, CBS has a very strong schedules, and no real holes to fill, few shows (if any) under preforming being kept around to fill holes, CBS has not reason to drop primetime hours, with NBC cutting back it also means more viewers for their 10pm shows.

ABC is similar but not as strong as CBS over all.

Here in Chicago, we get both Fox and WGN news at 9, and it's nice to be able to get at least the first half hour of news before settling down for the night. And if we do stay awake for the whole hour, they play The Simpson's at 10 so that's another plus.

Fox has a hard enough time scheduling enough quality programming. Adding an extra hour to each day would just mean more "American Idol" or some other abysmal show. Also, considering the trouble the broadcast networks are having right now (and given NBC's latest plan to give Jay Leno free reign in the 10pm-hour), I don't think anyone wants to consider more programming. The more cost-cutting they can do, the better.

Yeah, they show news at 10:00 in DC too, along with "Fox News Edge" at 11:00, so we get 90 minutes of amateurish news reporting every day. You would think that with 90 minutes of news, they would have time to do in-depth news reporting, but no, most of it is garbage and uninformative; I am better informed watching 30 minutes at 11:00 on other channels. And in DC, they have the fools standing around the set with rolled up paper instead of sitting at a desk, which is really stupid. If you couldn't tell, I REALLY hate the local Fox News.

I really like my local Fox News affiliate.

I've no idea how Fox News Corp controls them and their stances and what/how they report. But my local Fox affiliate has the best news cast, reporting, local stories and consumer/action reporting team.

I'll take 30 Rock, ....Earl and The Office over anything that shows on Fox. Well, House is good, but everything else is straight played out. Idol? Simpsons? KOTH? 24? COPS?

I think all of the networks have good and bad shows depending on the night of the week and some have more good or bad than others but only according to taste.
