I loved the show as a kid, then started to hate what it did to the image of Batman as I got a little older.
Once I accepted the show as a comedy and saw it as a live action version of the 50's comics, I grew to love it again.
I was always a fan of his though.
In the last couple decades, I think I loved everything he did.
I'm very glad the got a chance to make the animated movie before he died.

I'm shocked and saddened. First Carrie Fisher, then Richard Hatch, a couple of weeks ago it was Roger Moore and now Adam West. Someone is taking what I loved about my childhood and destroying it piece by piece. Rest in Peace Mr. West you will be very sorely missed .

Goddammit, I haven't even gotten over the death of Roger Moore, yet.

Seriously, my first Bond movie I saw as a kid was "Moonraker", the first Batman I saw (comics aside) was the '66 movie. So in just a few weeks, I lost my first Bond and my first Batman.

Not sure if it's a good idea to post this but -
I have seen so many reactions like this in recent years. Most are of a certain generation that their age means in the next decades we are going to see many celebrities die. That is part of life for all of us.

I think what is unique for the first time in history these celebrities can be part of our lives for decades. EIther in new work or simply posts we can read online. So the connection seems so personal.

But their work survives. I can rewatch any Batman episode of Adam West whenever I choose. Him being part of my childhood will never go away and I can revisit it like entering a time machine. WHich is something I can not do with my Dad who died 2 years.

Aw, man, Adam West was so cool. I was a huge fan of Batman when it was on the air. The worst thing my Mother could do to keep me in line was to threaten to make me miss Batman. Camp or not, that Batman was a great hero and role model, no iffy anti-hero stuff. Around the same time, his Robinson Crusoe on Mars would pop up from time to time on Channel 56, which I also loved.

RIP, Adam West. You could make anything look cool.

I too am saddened by his passing... A great body of work by a man who knew how to entertain.

I think is says a lot that people of my generation know him as Batman, but that later in his life, he was still very actively working.. But with my kids (who are now 20 and 16), they knew him only from his work in animation (Fairly Odd Parents, Family Guy, etc...) and were surprised that he was the original Batman.. They have no point of reference going that far back.

I'm glad he was able to do the '66 animated movie.. It holds an even more special place in my heart now. RIP, sir...

Without Adam West and the Batman series, the character wouldn't be anything close to what it is today. Multiple generations grew up watching it, and while the 1989 movie changed the tone, the 1989 movie might not have happened but for the popularity of the 1966 series.

The love of the character allowed for the shift in the tone, and the love of the character was because of Adam West.

No one did more for Batman than that man.

Batman '66 was a live-action pop art performance, like an Andy Warhol painting magically came to life somehow.
