Actor Nicolas Cage arrested

Dream

Actor Nicolas Cage was arrested after he got drunk in the city's French Quarter and argued in the street with his wife over whether a house they were in front of was theirs, police said Saturday.

The couple was in front of a home that Cage insisted they were renting, police said. When she said it wasn't theirs, Cage grabbed her arm, according to a police news release.

Cage started hitting vehicles and tried to get into a taxi, police said. An officer saw that Cage was drunk and told him to get out of the cab. Cage then started yelling at the officer.

The actor has been booked on charges of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness. He was released on $11,000 bond Saturday.

Representatives for Cage could not immediately be reached Saturday.

Damn, this guy can't seem to catch a break. First being in all those shitty movies this year and now this.

Seriously, AP, are you really going to leave us hanging? Is the house really Cage's or what...?

Public drunkenness? Sheeyit if that were an arrestable offence in Scotland we'd all be in the jile.

Thank you! Exactly what I was thinking. Journalism has gone to the dogs...

I'm guessing that the public drunkenness charge was related more to the creating a disturbance than it was that he was drunk, combined with his failure to invite the cop to split a pitcher...

Is this Dog's new angle? Bail Bondsman to the Stars?

I might actually watch that season... let Nic Cage jump bail, and Dog and the boys gotta go all out to get 'im back.

Technically, it is. Here too. Not one generally enforced, but one nonetheless. You've probably heard of 'drunk and disorderly' and 'drunk and incapable'. There is a lesser cousin from the same statute, merely 'drunk in public'.

Yeah, in the US, you don't really get arrested for being drunk in public--it's not like police are making random pedestrians blow a breathalyzer. But if you're intoxicated and making a scene, they can get you for being drunk in public.

I'm sure if they'd just quietly gone into their apartment, nothing would've come of it.

There's an offence of 'Simple Drunk' in Northern Ireland, which is not a place where drunkenness is generally frowned on. It only really comes into play if you're totally incapable (and not in the Nick Clegg sense).

Anyway, hasn't anyone cracked a 'Nicholas Caged' joke yet?

That surprises me. One of the first things I noticed, on my first trip to the UK, was how half the people in London seemed to be walking around with open cans of beer.

I even saw a guy drinking beer on the tube. There was nothing wrong with that--he wasn't bothering anyone, and looked simply like a hard-working man enjoying a cold beer on the way home from a hot day's work.

It's just something I don't see very often in Canada.

Funny you chose that example, Boris Johnson has now made it illegal to drink alcohol on the tube in London.
But generally, unless you're in a No Street Drinking zone (designated by local bylaw) it is legal to drink in public openly here. It's even legal to drink openly while driving. A distinction is made between drinking and being drunk.

He's made soooo much money in the last twenty years and he pissed it away without paying his taxes. Boo hoo. And for a guy with his history of drug and alcohol abuse, a drunken public disagreement is a symptom. That's the only part I have a bit of empathy for.

I like him. I figure he pissed off some high level asshole to get his current treatment. You know you are in deep shit when the IRS comes after you. The Celeb protection plan didn't even kick in. At least he is doing better than Wesley Snipes. Wesley should have never behaved so badly during the production of Blade Trinity. Don't piss off the producers or you lose your protection. Now Wesley Snipes is in jail.

There was just a short piece about him on the news; apparently, he allegedly owes more than 14 million dollars in back taxes.

14 million?

How exactly does that happen?
