BBC News| Michael Lonsdale, who played James Bond villain in Moonraker, dies aged 89

Aside from his role as Hugo Drax in Moonraker, Lonsdale appeared in supporting roles in a lot of great dramas, like The Name of the Rose, The Remains of the Day, Ronin, or Spielberg's Munich.

Bummer. He's also very good in The Day of the Jackal (1973). I loved his performance in Ronin. I always felt he was wasted on Hugo Drax.

RIP.

most actors playing bond villains were. But it had to be fun, on some level. Still, he'll always be Drax to me.

It's still mine. At least of the ones Roger Moore did.

Of Roger Moore's films, my tastes have changed over the decades, and The Spy Who Loved Me is my favorite of his films, with For Your Eyes Only and A View to a Kill being closer to the top than Moonraker these days.
