from here trek today

As reported by TrekMovie.com, from an article in the May issue of SFX Magazine, Roddenberry's vision of humanity and optimism appealed to Abrams. "The themes that got me excited honestly had less to do with Star Trek and space and [and more to do with the optimism and humanity and of finding your purpose through unity,"]* explained Abrams. "It ends up being a guiding principle of the movie. It needed to be faithful to the optimism that Gene Roddenberry wrote with during a time of fear and hate and suspicion. He was writing of our future where we were not just surviving it, but by cooperating and collaborating, we actually thrived. That to me, more than ever, is a relevant idea."
if abrams was able to capture the above then i believe that is more important then some small bit canon that maybe is different from what some remember.

heck i can even deal with the silly  hostess stations if we get
more to do with the optimism and humanity and of finding your purpose through unity,

I agree with you, pookha. I have been saying this since the beginning. I want a good movie with good storytelling.
The people who have now seen this movie are saying what Abrams, Orci and Kurtzman have told us: Even the canon is not destroyed by this movie.

I can handle the changes in visual style and continuity so long as the story has a great impact and rocks. If it feels like a classic TOS storyline with a vastly bigger budget I'll cheer and this'll go down as one of my all-time favorite Trek films. We'll wait and see. Barely a month to go!
