I did. I still remember hearing that he passed back around 2001 or 2002. Although, admittedly, i could be thinking of another Barney Miller cast member.
Sad he's gone, but on the other hand if a person lives to 94 and is healthy right up until the end, hard to be too sad.
I thought he died a long time ago. Wait, maybe that was Jerry Orbach. I always get those two confused.

It's interesting, he was playing "over the hill" on Barney Miller 40 years ago, but outlived Ron Carey, Steve Landesberg, Florence Stanley, James Gregory and of course Jack Soo. I first heard of his "death" in junior high about 30 years ago. I remember arguing with a couple of people, pre-internet of course, that refused to believe he was alive.
He was always good, from Sal "It was only business" Tessio to his many appearances on Conan. He had a good run, but I'm sorry to seem him go.

He was definitely one of those that we "thought" had passed a long time ago, but the internet allowed us to know better.
Great as Fish, he had a fun part in Cannonball Run II as a mobster, Godfather I & II, numerous roles on TV in the 70's and 80's and beyond.

I knew he was alive as recently as the last couple of years because he briefly appeared in one of those "you aren't you when you're hungry" Snickers commercials. It was the same that starred Betty White. But that itself surprised me because I too just assumed he was long gone.

Not to be disrespectful, but I'm glad to see I wasn't the only one who would have assumed that he was already dead.
I know he was in Barney Miller but I really remember Abe from all his appearances with Conan O'Brien.
