Any idea what will happen to "Life on Mars" when LOST comes back in Jan/Feb 2009 to replace it?

Also why the hell have two summer shows been given Friday night slots ? dear me ABC talk about folding in the towel.

Heres something I found weird, I thought Oprah's big give was a one off show but apparantly ABC were given the chance for a 2nd season and decided against it. Now her wage must be high but still with the ratings, you would think this would make ABC a nice tidy bit of money ???

This initial schedule is very very light on half hour comedies. As in, there aren't any. Everything is an hour drama or reality show.

The only midseason shows I can see on the ABC schedule are Scrubs, Lost, The Goode Family, The Bachelor and this Tyra Banks/Ashton Kutcher thing. They must have great confidence in what they already have.

Re: Life on Mars...it can easily transplant itself to the Boston Legal slot on Monday night when Lost comes back.

That's entirely possible. Boston Legal is only getting a 13-episode order, right? So they'll need something to fill the hole in the schedule. Of course, it's hard to say if the US-adaptation of Life on Mars will even register with the audience. They're giving it the coveted post-Grey's timeslot but one never knows.

Actually, ABC wanted the show for a second cycle and Oprah decided to cancel it herself. Something had to go dreadfully wrong for her not to want to bring it back again.

WarpCoil...absolutely true there is no guarantees with Life on Mars. But I can't see ABC canceling it midseason and not have another David E. Kelly show waiting to go. After all, how long as he had stuff on ABC? The Practice, going back to 1997. Unless ratings are tragic, it'll get a full year and at least one timeslot bump.

I don't see Life on Mars doing well, am sorry but I don't think enough of the US Audience will like Life on Mars because they might think oh god another LOST with little answers till the end.

If its half as good as the UK one, I hope it does well but IMO, Life on Mars would be a perfect partner for LOST not Grey's. if I was ABC I would have a thursday night of...

8pm - Greys
9pm - Lost
10pm - Life on Mars

Why, oh why do you think the American audience won't watch Life on Mars? Is it because we let Sports Night die? Or My So-Called Life? Freaks and Geeks? And we watch garbage like Idol and America's Got Talent? :D

For the sake of argument, if Lost gets put into 9 pm and Grey's at 8, where does Ugly Betty go? The Betty-GA-Lost schedule seems to work right now for them so why change it? Sunday night hasn't changed a lick going into its third year.

Congratulations, ABC. You've given me even less reason to watch your network come the fall season. And no, Duel, The Mole, the NBA Finals and the NASCAR Sprint for the Cup don't count. (I only watch the NBA on ABC is because they have the contract, but Mike Breen is getting on my nerves as just some guy they plugged in for NBA basketball, but that's for the Sports forum.)

But even though I don't watch it, it's good to see Extreme Makeover Home Edition still on. At least they are not complete idiots.

Why, oh why do you think the American audience won't watch Life on Mars? Is it because we let Sports Night die?

In a word: YES!

And I'm still upset about that...

I don't see why it won't be possible for Life On Mars to finish it's run before Lost comes back in January/Febrauary.

At the rate its ratings are sinking, Ugly Betty is going to the bin come next May so a new timeslot might help.

Well it's hard to know till it airs, but I think the reaction will be more like "another cop show." And unless they recast the sucker, I can't say the cast is anywhere near as sexy as Lost's. Let's not overestimate that factor in locking in an audience. ;) And it looks very much like a male-skewing show. I don't see any synergy with the Grey's audience!

My gut instinct is that Life on Mars will lose a big chunk of the lead-on and it won't be around long. Overall, I am not at all sanguine about the chances for the new sf/f shows being debuted. The freshman class of 07-08 actually did very well, more than half survived. I don't see that happening with 08-09. I predict carnage.

David E. Kelly has already left the show.

Outside of Pushing Daisies and Scrubs (when it makes it's mid-season appearance)..there's nothing I really want to watch on ABC.
