A way forward with Kelvin -- adapting "Parallel Lives"?

Yes it's gimmicky. :p But it's also in vogue with current Hollywood, and could provide a legitimate shot in the arm. Maintain continuity with the Kelvin movies by having a 'pass the torch' movie from one cast to the next, or else simply recast with the entire gender-swapped crew, and move forward with sequels featuring them instead. I don't mind admitting I'd find this an intriguing place to explore story-wise, and also, it would give the movies a product differentiation from the now ongoing TV versions.

Thoughts? :)

The Parallel Lives series is a blast but I don't see that with Kelvin Trek.

I personally would prefer just starting a new series with John Cho as Sulu, as cast Rand, Kyle, Valtane, maybe even Terrell or other smaller roles from TOS/TOS films.

Also, would love to see something along the lines of @MadMan1701A Kelvin Excelsior design :)

I love that comic series. The parts where the characters meet their other version are so priceless, especially Spock and femSpock. It may seem a forced premise but it does have some interesting potential. I love the comics really do embrace the concept of different realities and how big and infinite the universe is because there are infinite universes.

I'm all for gender-swapping one or two of the TOS crew, but all of them? That's a gimmick and it didn't exactly work for Ghostbusters (which I really enjoyed, but was a financial failure)

For a reboot, I too think the better idea is when they do that with only some characters like in Battlestar Galactica or Elementary.

That comic series swapped them all, both male and female characters, to deliberately suggest there is a reality where their genders are different. And they crossover with the main reality characters, which is the fun part. I don't know if they could replicate that in a movie, though. Maybe only some characters getting to meet their alternate selves?

That comic was a bit odd the way they went about it. Yes, everyone on the Enterprise are gender swapped, but everyone else in the universe are still the same genders we're familiar with, which means a majority of their authority figures are still male who express doubt about Jane Kirk's ability to command because she's female. IMO, if you're going to do a gender swap storyline, go all in, gender swap everyone. That means creating a universe where the women are the dominant gender who look down on the men. I know it's been done before, and even Star Trek has variations on matriarchal societies (like Angel One, for example) but I'm all for anything that'll make broflakes cry.

Plus, the comic's resolution turns super fanwanky with Geordi La Forge and Shatner Kirk getting involved.

Since Anton Yelchin is no longer with us. Now would be the perfect time to introduce Lieutenant Arex, the three armed, three legged alien with yellow eyes and orange skin from the original animated series. Especially since they want to bring in the CGI. I'm nearly certain he'd be better than Jar Jar Binks.

I would rather they didn't directly adapt a story that has previously been published. Maybe just take some thematic cues.

Adapting a novel might result in a Trek movie with a well thought out story, instead of another (failed?) attempt at a cinematic block buster epic.

While boldface can be good for emphasizing a word or phrase within a larger block of text, using it for an entire post isn't necessary and could be perceived as shouty.

"Inside voice" is fine, really. ;)

Sorry. Wasn't trying to shout. I did a paste and then all the text came out that way. I some times wish the powers that be would build a better future on credible basic ideas of the past. I mean look at how the Enterprise ship, the Klingons( from TNG), Andorians, Tallerites, Gorn, Tholians(from Ent), the Talosions, section 31 and the mirror universe(from Disco). All have been improved and look way better. Ever the new animated series is bring back the Caitian species (or at least one, the new doctor on Lower Decks).
