A Star Wars analogy

Joe Washington

What if Locke is the Obi Wan Kenobi to Jack's Luke Skywalker?

Maybe the whole purpose of his arc was to teach Jack to stop letting science and reason drive his life so much and start embracing faith and destiny.

Sadly, Locke is dead. But maybe Locke wasn't meant to be around for the final season. Maybe like Obi Wan Kenobi, he was meant to die to pave the way for Jack to fulfill his destiny which would require him to give a lot of himself over to the power of faith. This season, he was getting there but let his desire to erase everything that happened in the show's past get him off track.

I also think Jacob is Yoda in this analogy, Jacob's rival is the manipulative Emperor, Kate is Leia, and Sawyer is Han Solo.

So Jack and Kate aren't going to end up together?

I think, at this point, there's a good indication that Sawyer won't make it (or, if he will, Jack won't). The writers don't seem content to resolve this love triangle by introducing a fourth person.

here's another one although somewhat reversed. Miles and Pierre Chang. Miles being Luke who knows that Pierre (Darth Vader) is his father. Pierre gets his hand chopped off. Well it gets crushed, but maybe they have to amputate? Still up in the air if Miles will have to lop his off too.

So Jack and Kate aren't going to end up together?-Alidar Jarok

Yes, Alidar, I believe that. Think about it. Jack and Kate already had their chance at happiness, at having a real relationship off-island. But it all fell apart with Jack's pill-popping and drinking.

But, thinking about it on a more meaningful level, I believe it fell apart because Jack knew deep down he wasn't meant to leave the island and return to the outside world to have a normal life. He was scared of that feeling and didn't want to admit it to himself, being the stubborn bastard he is. When he saw his dead father in the hospital's lobby, he was reminded of that fear that drove his determination to leave the island by whatever means necessary. This time, he used pills and drinking to run away from that fear. I think by the end of the series, Jack is going to stay on the island while Kate and Sawyer will return to the outside world as a couple, which Jack will be totally at peace with at that point.

Remember, the Lost creators said that a choice will be made in Season 3 when it comes to who Kate is destined to be with. I think Sawyer became that choice in the first six episodes of that season. It's just, out of messing with our expectations and delaying that bit until the final season, they decide not to have the coupling between the two last for very long.

Jack is certainly annoying enough to be Luke. :D He even has a lost sister he never knew about and a jerk of a dad, and he ends up in the same profession as dad. Damn, George Lucas should sue!
