A Simple (And cheap) Idea for an anniversary special

Have the Doctor's mind get scrambled in a temporal-electrical-neuron storm and as a result his conciousness keeps jumping from one personality to another. Or in simple terms: Have the current actor playing The Doctor act in the mannerisms/voices and phrases of past Doctors for the episode. He could even have conversations with himself between different personas. (As 3: "Maybe we should reverse the polarity?") (As 6: "That's a stupid idea.") (As 9: "It could work! It worked once.")

It would be really hard on the actor but I'm sure with enough studying and hard work whoever is the current Doctor could pull it off. With this strategy you wouldn't have to re-cast actors who have passed on or who are too old to resemble their formerselves and it could save money on the budget that could be used towards special effects instead of casting.

Thats been talked about before a few times, in priciple is a neat idea, but for the 50th anniversary im sure the BBC will want to do something much grander.

...And regarding the Budget, I imagine that is well within hand, plans have been made for exactly what is desired/needed, and budgets between now and then will be set accordingly to ensure that needed budget is there (This is the 50th Anniversary we're talking about, it's going to be well planned and meant to be epic. Doesn't mean everyone will like it, but, it will be big)

The trouble is I don't know if anyone is a good enough actor to channel all 11 personalities.

I have flashbacks to that fucking awful episode of TNG where Data is possessed and doing voices.

Why not just do an animated episode, that way the remaining actors could portray their characters as they were then and the viewers wouldn't have to suspend disbelief that the actors have aged.

As long as they look recognizable, I don't really see a problem with the aging. I had no problem accepting Troughton in the Two Doctors, nor Peter Davison in Time Crash. Tom Baker and Colin Baker, might be an issue because they have changed an awful lot, but, if they were given wigs and wore their Doctors' outfits, it may be fine. McCoy, Davison and McGann, I don't see any issue at all with using as is. And of Course Tennant and Eccelston (If he could be persuaded to return) would be both fine as is.

Being able to do a passable impersonation of a very easily impersonable (is that a word?) doctor is hardly conclusive.

Actually maybe Michael Sheen could, he's played just about everyone else...

Peter Davison also chanelled several predecessors in Castrovalva when he was recovering. Colin Baker likewise had a tendency to refer to Peri as past companions.

In the Timewyrm novel series the Seventh Doctor likewise took on the persona of the third.

It would be fucking awful, what you are suggesting is the same as asking William Shatner to put on a dark wig and pretend to be 35 again - it would be a sad degrading event for all concerned.

So, you had a problem with Troughton doing just that with the Two Doctors? I'm not suggesting they should look 35, it shouldn't matter they've aged, but, they should be recognizable, and if it looked wrong, then yea, it shouldn't be done. We should be able to easily suspend disbelief for the age (Just adjust canon in your brain that they were actually older when they regenerated), as long as they look recognizable

Put a wig and a new-made blue suit (or maybe a black suit with blue accents? Black is slimming) on Colin Baker, and I'd totally be there; they explained away Peter not being quite as fit as he used to be. Why can't they use the same explanation for the others? I'd argue that Tom Baker looks worse than Colin Baker does in relation to how they looked when playing the Doctor.

Seriously - you put a almost 80 year old man in a curly thick dark wig and he will look like a man wearing a wig.
