I've been lucky enough to not feel the need to start a thread like this for many years, but today I have reason to.
My uncle Mike is current in the ICU due to cardiomyopathy and colitis (an infection in his colon). His heart is currently only operating at 20% and his lungs have also begun to fill with fluid. It's very uncertain right now as to the seriousness of these conditions. There's been mention that people with this sort of heart issue end up needing transplant, but nothing is for certain right now.
A bit of background on my uncle...about 12 years ago, he went in for a routing back surgery. He played sports in high school and had always been rather heavy set and that had taken it's toll on his back. The surgery was supposed to be just that...routine, but it wound up being anything but. When he woke up in the hospital, he was unable to feel anything from his chest down. It was later found that the anesthesiologist failed to monitor his heart rate closely during surgery. There was a malpractice suit, my aunt and uncle won and the doctor was stripped of his credentials...and he is now wheelchair bound. My aunt has to help him with all his bodily functions, the house had to be retrofitted to accommodate his chair. This has also then contributed to other health problems for him since then, due to the paralysis.
Anyway, we're still waiting on updates but I figure any good thoughts from out there couldn't possibly hurt. My aunt is on her way, and my cousin is here already, and we're all just hoping for the best. Thanks, guys.
