A question about the time of Tuvok's childhood (major movie spoilers!)

Exactly when did Tuvok grow up on Vulcan? We see him on board Sulu's Excelsior as a young officer. How old would he have been then?

Might he have been growing up during the years of Kirk's five year mission? Before that?

I'm trying to figure if a certain significant event in the movie will affect Tuvok's personal history any.

Can anyone help me out?

(I know, nothing said above was really major movie spoilers, but I'm still trying to be careful. Contact me privately if you want to know what I'm talking about.)

Dag Nab It!!! Does this mean you've already seen it? Lucky you! I believe somewhere his childhood is referred to as being born on a Vulcan Colony.

Not having seen the movie yet, I can't say for sure, but I'd think it's really a matter of what you make it.

Even if XI somehow contradicts what we know of Tuvok's history so far, it's your choice whether to keep it or throw it out as personal canon.

I'm one of those fans who prefers the 'multiple reality' concept, so I'm just calling this new movie and whatever else it generates an AU, just like the Mirrorverse. Everything we've seen on screen before is still there in my mind...just in a reality slightly to the left (or right).

Tuvok most likely will never exist in Nu Trek. And yes, I just saw the movie.

I'm sorry to say that this thread title spoiled the movie for me. :(

When I saw the title of this thread three days ago (without opening the thread) I put two and two together with the shot of the planet being destroyed in the trailer and I figured that it was Vulcan. I'm not blaming you, and maybe it was a good thing because knowing it beforehand probably helped me to accept the fact while watching the movie.

Tuvok was born on the Vulcanis Lunar Colony. Not Vulcan itself.

So it doesn't necessarily follow that the destruction of Vulcan would prevent Tuvok from ever being born. (Remember, Vulcan has no moon, so wherever this Vulcanis is, it's not in the Vulcan system. It's even been suggested that it's on Earth's Moon...) Assuming that his parents lived on this 'Vulcanis' for some time, then they were probably not on Vulcan when it was destroyed. Or they could simply have been among the survivors.

I'd love it if Tuvok was still around . . . Tim Russ after all did give us my favorite Vulcan :D

The events of Star Trek VI (When Tuvok is serving aboard the Excelsior) took place around 2280's-early 2290's. I would guess the new film took place at least 40-50 years before that. If you remember the episode "Gravity", Tuvok was on Vulcan during his childhood, so I'm sure he was on the planet when it was destroyed. Unless he and his family some how got a transport, or shuttle craft off the planet before it's destruction.
