A question about baseball leagues

Mr. Laser Beam

I used to wonder why there were more teams in the National League (16) than in the American League (14). I looked it up, and apparently it's like this: If one of the NL teams switched to the AL, then there'd be 15 teams in both, but there'd have to be interleague play every day and one team would always be sitting out.

I'm guessing that this would be a direct result of the fact that such a move would leave both leagues with an odd number of teams. If I'm wrong about this, please feel free to correct me.

My question is this: If both leagues had the same, even number of teams (such as, if the AL added two expansion teams, or the NL lost two), would this still happen?

I don't understand the question. If both leagues had 15 teams, there would have to be an interleague series each series but no one would have to sit out since there's an even number of total teams.

I guess I did too MUCH Googling this time.

So I'm guessing that it would be okay if both leagues had the same number of teams, as long as it's an even number?
