A Private Little War

A clear Viet Nam allegory with a really hot chick. :)

It's probably an interesting episode in a historical perspective, because it illustrates the American foreign policy philosophy of the time quite well. "If they arm their allies with A, we are ours with A. If they escalate to B, we escalate to B."

We're lucky we made it thru those decades!

A delightful mixture of cheese, adventure and Cold War/Vietnam commentary.

Nancy Kovack's portrayal of Nona was the biggest delight of all. Ned Romero's cameo as Krell the Klingon brought back the more Kor-like dark-skinned Klingons, this time with hair that would make Conway Twitty smile. You've gotta love the "hit me" scene in Sickbay; that's still worth a good laugh after 40 years!

I'm still undecided as to which was cheesier: the Mugato fight scenes, or Nona's "healing" Mako Root seance in the cave.

Neat footage of McCoy using a hand phaser.

Too bad the show's makers didn't take this morsel of fromage a little more seriously.

Still, I love. Too bad Nona was killed. She was a hottie! She should've cast a sex spell on the Villagers before showing them her new toy.

A good episode with an uncharacteristically "sad" ending ("We're very tired...beam us up").

I could have done without the Mugato subplot. It didn't add much to the story other than as a way for Nona to practice her serio-orgasmic healing ritual on Kirk. Certainly a different wild animal could have been used. Janos Prohaska in the white gorilla suit just doesn't do it for me.

I wonder if the footage of partially-nude Nona showering under the waterfall (referenced in "Inside Star Trek") survived anywhere...

As a woman, Nona annoyed the fuck out of me. I always want to slap her silly.

The Mugato, one of my favourite creatures from the Star Trek bestiary. Imagine as an actor, thinking your big day had come, being told your part was as a Mugato in a Star Trek episode!, ......everything afterwards would be such an anticlimax!!

Regards

You say Mugato...

...and I say Mugatu,
Let's call the whole thing off.

...The funny thing is, this really was a big day for the actor.

That is, the man inside the suit was the designer of the suit, Janos Prohaska himself. That's what he had come to Star Trek to do. In the US, he never played speaking parts anywhere, probably because his English wasn't good enough; he apparently never had ambitions to do so.

It was real trouble for the Enterprise...
Both the captain and first officer were critically injured and near death on the same mission.

I still have many thoughts about Nona. She was a serious Trek babe, probably towards the top of my list right next to Helen Noel. So, um, what was this episode about again?

Didn't McCoy take a bullet in the arm too?
Though he barely seemd to notice it, considering it was a large caliber musket ball. Those things usually blew arms right off!
