A open message to Hallmark

I don't know if Hallmark designers go to these sites or if friends of the designers go to these sites. But hey it could happen;)

We have a 6 foot tree with "all" of the Star Trek Hallmark Ornaments on it. The one thing that could really "top" our great tree would be a trek tree topper;) I would so pay for a tree topper.

Also I don't know about the other members of this site but I for one wish they would start making ornaments again that plug into the light strip. I want them on all the time. Not by battery and button. I don't know why they started battery powered ones.

I will later post a pic of our tree.

Merry Christmas to All and All a good night
James & Family

p.s. I would suggest that all members that agree with me e-mail hallmark and let them know.

I just want them to make the following ornaments:

-USS Excelsior OR USS Enterprise-B
-USS Enterprise-C
-USS Prometheus
-USS Enterprise-J
-USS Stargazer

As long as we're talking about Hallmark, I have to question their pricing structure.

Johnny Lightning does quality equal to Hallmark, with prices of less than eight dollars per ship. Hallmark puts a *smaller* version out and charges thirty-two dollars? Who are they kidding with those prices?

I know that one of our posters here works for Hallmark because he/she posted about designing the Enterprise ornament for last year. I'm sorry to say I've stopped collecting them.

That's a great idea!

While the plug in ornaments have the advantage of always being on, I prefer the battery and button ones. The detail on the ships is usually pretty good, and they're decent enough to have sitting around the rest of the year without an unsightly cord sticking out of them.

I asked a Hallmark employee a year or so why they stopped the plug-in lights on many of their ornaments (Trek included). According to them (and taken with a grain of salt), people were complaining of fires or something. It was kinda strange, I thought.

For next year, I am betting that it'll be the new Enterprise. Although, I really want them to make the NX-01. To me, that seems to be a glaring omission (and no, I don't consider the non-light up one to be part of the line).

They did make the NX-01, but it was done in Pewter and pretty heavy to actually hang on a tree.

I just hope they do what needs to be done for 2016. If they don't make a Gene Roddenberry ornament, in recognition of Gene himself, all he accomplished, Trek's 50th anniversary, and the 25th year of doing Trek ornaments, I'll simply go bat-shit on Hallmark.

2016 - Roddenberry ornament.

I also think it should be fan designed, contest wise. Open to world-wide submission, and then a collection of finalists could have computer models made up to show fans what they would look like in 3-D, and fans could vote on the winner.

Except they'll probably sue if their design takes off and they feel they've not got enough royalties...

No grain of salt needed. It's true.

People usually buy one special light-up ornament to put on a string of lights. The ornaments actually come with a piece of paper warning never to put more that four light-up ornaments on a string of lights.

The problem is that people often throw away the packaging, pack away their ornaments still connected to the string of lights, and then add a new ornament every year. On the toy listserv I frequent, people have boasted 20-odd Trek ornaments on a string - a huge fire hazard - and a few have also had the whole string blow the power, ruining the light-up feature of each ornament.

So yeah, it was getting dangerous, and someone would have tried to sue Hallmark.

Apparently you missed the "and no, I don't consider the non-light up one to be part of the line". :vulcan:

Hmm...I didn't know that. Good thing I don't load the tree up with them (and I keep the packaging to put the things back in). :p

I don't mind the change to batteries, I put up some of the older ships this year with my new tree and I just left them unlit no big deal, it'll cut down on the wear and tear I guess.
