A new generation is brought into the fold

My daughter, Lorelei, has become a full fledged trekkie at the age of 4. She watches full length episodes of the original and the animated series and enjoys them though the plots are generally over her head. Today, she watched Yesteryear and Beyond the Farthest Star and decided she had to do a bit of Trek roleplay.

Of course, she had to be the Captain. I set up three chairs in the classic configuration and basically hotseated the Enterprise's characters--luckily I have a talent for voice mimicry, and she insisted I do every character!

We fought Klingons, saved royalty, brought the dead back to life, and generally had an awesome time.

God, it's *great* to be a Trek dad :)

That's absolutely adorable! Teach her the Vulcan greeting and have her walk around telling people to "Live long and prosper." Take a video, slap it on YouTube. Instant hit!!!

Yes, but did you save any whales?!?! *grin*

Hey--Trek stops in 1974, pal :)

You may be onto something there :)

^^^ That is adorable.

Sorry but my teens think Trek is for the weirdo, no life, geeked out type living in a fantasy world. I hate to see it because TOS Trek in particular was very inspiring to our generation. It inspired many a scientist, writer, engineer or physician to pursue their carreers. I hope JJ can make it cool again and that the kids will watch and get inspired from the old TOS.

I agree!! :bolian:

My kids, 4 and 5, love TOS. They can name all of the characters, run around the house with my AA Comm, and definitely find it interesting to watch "Daddy's favorite show." Hopefully it will stick with them!
