A modest request

Shatnertage

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
On the off chance that anyone associated with the film is reading this, and is seeking creative input from someone with no screenwriting credits to date, I've got a small request:

Could the ship be up and running with a full crew complement when the movie starts?

Obviously, with the last film being an origin story that wasn't the case, but when I think of Star Trek movies, it seems that most of the time the ship either isn't working, hasn't been properly shaken down, or doesn't have its full crew.

It'd just be nice for them to do a story when the ship itself being a piece of crap/broken/understaffed isn't a big part of the movie. I'd love to see the Enterprise and its crew on a good day.

I don't recall the Enterprise having any problems in STXI that weren't caused by Nero's missiles. Yeah it was crewed mostly by cadets, but that didn't lead to any problems:shrug:.

Oh, it's not that movie I'm thinking about mostly. It's just about every other TOS movie, particularly the first one, which seemed to make a point of showing us how Starfleet was inept at handling personnel changes (Kirk delivers the good news to the guy whose job he's taking), the transporters kill people, and warp drive's all screwed up. And all the other movies with a ship just out of drydock, with a skeleton crew, etc.

It'd just be cool to see this iteration of the Enterprise in the thick of things from the start.

Yeah...

TSFS was really the only TOS movie to open up with the Enterprise crewed, operational and underway, and they were still just the leftover cadets from the previous movie.

As far as TMP, the Enterprise and her crew were somewhat of a disaster. Replacing the transporter sensor and not bothering to tell the transporter room to chill out for a few minutes while they do it, and everyone on the ship knowing the captain is being replaced before the captain knows.

Sulu: "uhhh...he doesn't know"

Why the F not? He's the captain.

Yeah, and it doesn't say a lot of Starfleet's HR department.

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't care what color the warp nacelles are, where Delta Vega is, or how old Chekhov is...I just want to see the Enterprise and its crew out there having adventures.

I'll be honest, my main concern is what color the warp nacelles will be.

All I ask for? No super weapons please.

Hm, good point. Does the Borg's time travel count as a super weapon? I only ask because if it counts, then that's five consecutive movies that feature a super weapon of some kind.
