Yeah, that one. Admittedly, I've never seen it (otherwise I'd know I was wrong; I have a pretty good memory for film) but it was the only black and white space-based science fiction movie I was aware of from that year.

^ Kurt Maetzig's Der Schweigende Stern (1960). Another very good guess, but again sadly incorrect. However, an early Stanislaw Lem novel also served as the conceptual basis for our mystery movie. Clue: Think Greek.
