A Matter Of Honour

Last night I got to see this one again for the first time since 1988.

It really is a fantastic episode that holds up very well. Even the effects, lighting and costuming don't seem as bad as other season 1 and 2 episodes.

The humour isn't forced and had my girlfriend and I laughing out loud. The scenes with Riker and the flirty klingon females (in fact, that whole messroom scene) were very well done. Riker being with the klingons also gives Data some more depth.

And the underlying theme of getting to know and respect each others differences is one we can definitely learn from in these days of "war on terror".

I think this could be seen as a turning point in the show. I'm sure it's just coincidence that Troi is nowhere to be seen....

Season 2 picked up, and A Matter of Honour is one of the better Klingon episodes in the series (IMO Sins of the Father is best).

Yeah, I watched that one fairly recently myself in my girlfriend and I's trek (ha!) through TNG, and it's quite good. It really is part of a gradual upswing in quality that begins around mid-season 2, which is continued quite will with "The Measure of a Man" coming right after it.

I also love the bit at the end where Riker takes command of the Klingon ship and demands Picard's surrender.

Exactly! And, what other human besides Will Riker (or his "twin" Tom) could have survived serving aboard a Klingon ship, as he did?!
It was a great episode about Klingons and their warbirds.

I like the way Klag became close to Riker after the initial mistrust.

I really like this one, too. We get to see a side of Riker we should have seen more of, and Klag was a great foil/friend for him.
