A line that I never noticed, and...

Amasov

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
...laughed like hell when I heard it.

I was watching Year of Hell. It's the when the crew is dedicating the new astrometrics lab. The doctor is giving a speech about how wonderful he thinks the crew is.

"Who would have thought this eclectic group of voyagers could actually become a family? Starfleet, Maquis, Klingon, Talaxian, Hologram, Borg, even Mr. Paris!"

It's almost like Picardo just threw that in at the last second. :guffaw:

I love that line too but it was definately not improvised. Star Trek is notorious for strictly sticking to the script. I've heard actors say that if it said "I AM" in the script and they said "I'm" then they had to reshoot.

Well, Picardo did ad-lib one of his scenes once - he was just supposed to say "Somebody forgot to turn off my program" but he added "...I'm a doctor, not a light bulb".

So if there is a rule against adlibs, it's definitely not ironclad.

Might vary from director to director, writer to writer. And if they have the scene in the bag and they are just doing one last take to see if'ts an better.

Wasnt that from when he auditioned for the role?

I loved Picardo's performance as the EMH in Voyager. His delivery of snarky, sarcastic lines was so often priceless. It must've been so much fun to be on that set with him. I wish there were more blooper outtakes of him ripping on his fellow actors. ;)

Strange because I read/heard that some STV's actors, like the disciplined Kate Mulgrew, often told (and Ethan Philipps confirmed the news) that their friendly co-star, Robet Picardo, used to "re-write" his lines, what made reharsals quite disturbing & funny, though they ended to get accustomed and kept doing.

I think that it depended on the directors. Some had to let Picardo doing what he wanted and some others were more sticter.

To be fair, if that was Brent Spiner, there's a good reason...

Maybe he did that for bloopers but for scenes that were actually sent to print they had to be 100% according to script. Many of the actors have said this

Fair enough too. 'I'm' is a bit lazy especially for the likes of The Doctor, Tuvok or Seven.
