A Galaxy Class ship, that's something special

Garm Bel Iblis

Commodore
So 5 minutes before I had to leave for work today, I made captain and jumped in a transwarp corridor back to Earth to get my new ship, a Galaxy Class beauty. Now I'm stuck at working ITCHING to get my hands on her and take her out of dock and into space.

I've been using the heavy crusier and have a lot of fun with it. Question: I also want a Defiant-Class, but are their shields just as weak as the Akira and other escort ships?

The standard shields that you get when you receive your ship aren't that great. The Galaxy class has better shielding and hull rating. It also has more crew, which makes regen and repair much faster. Aside from some basic improvement, I think the Defiant shields are like the other Escorts.

In the Defiant's defense, though, it can whip around other ships pretty quickly, while the Galaxy class turns like a battleship, which is slow and wide. That slow turn makes you a very easy target. It will depend upon what you chose when you signed up, whether Tactical, Engineer or Science officer. Usually ENG's use cruisers while TACs take Escorts. I much prefer the Cruiser, and I'm a Tactical Officer.
