A Confounding Computer Issue

I know this is going to sound strange, but similar things have happened to me. Is the monitor connected when you hit the power button? Also what sort of connector is it using? DVI I assume?

The monitor is connected. The monitor has a VGA and a DVI port on the back, the card has both also.

Oh, and an update. I convinced them it was a PCI-e issue. So. at my expense, Gateway wants me to ship the PC to them and they'll repair the issue. Once it's there, they'll repair it and ship it back at no cost. That sounds reasonable considering I bought it refurb and they don't really have to do anything. So this Tuesday when I get a chance, I'm doing just that. Now I have to dig out my old computer and hopefully cram about 70 GB worth of documents onto it's aging hard drive and hope it holds out until I get this system back. I just hope shipping isn't outrageous.
