Oh yes.

Yes, friends, whether you like it or not we're finally getting that long-awaited Christmas Story sequel no one ever asked for this October 30, courtesy of Warner Home Entertainment, which means it's going straight to DVD/Blu-ray. Jingle All the Way director Brian Levant (who our own Scott Weinberg called a "soft-focus tripod" via Twitter) is behind this one, with a story that looks to pick up with Ralphie (Braeden Lemasters) as a teenager who desperately wants a 1938 Hupmobile Skyline Convertible for Christmas. Daniel Stern will play Ralphie's "Old Man," while Stacey Travis is his mother, and Valin Shinyei is brother Randy.

I think I'd rather shoot my eye out. :(

They already made a few sequels to Christmas Story. I believe one of them was called "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss." And the other was "It Runs in the Family," aka "My Summer Story."

I've seen "It Runs in the Family", and it was no "A Christmas Story." I wasn't aware there was another movie, and this sequel will never be seen by me. The only worse idea would be a sequel to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The only interesting thing I could find out about "Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss," is that it starred Jerry O'Connel as Ralphie. And of course, had Jean Shepherd providing the narration.

This.

The original film was lightning in a bottle. It was more than just the plot or the fact it was about Christmas. It was the setting, direction and cast.

The only worse idea would be a sequel to "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

That happened...twice.

Both were pretty bad, made even more terrible by the absence of Boris Karloff and Chuck Jones, and the fact that, unless they were prequels [and the fate of Max in the Halloween one would suggest they aren't], they shat all over the ending and message of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," by having the Grinch back to being evil and terrorizing Whoville.

How about "How the Grinch Stole A Christmas Story 2, Return of the Killer Grinch". It's got hit written all over it, I tell ya!

As a side note, I've been to the school where the exteriors were shot, it's in a town near my old home town. It's boarded up, but still there! I always visit it at Christmas too.

In a real sense, a sequel is irrelevant since I'm going to pass on it. It's like trying to do a sequel to To Kill A Mockingbird--sure, you can do it, but the original was a product of its time and of the right pieces (script, cast, director & production crew) coming together then and there. I believe the same is very much true for A Christmas Story.

The first was definitely a prequel. The second could be.

Have y'all read the book, "In God we Trust, all Others Pay Cash?".... It's the basis for A Christmas Story, but the book only dwells on Christmas a little bit.. I've never seen the two sequels, so I'm not sure if they were gleaned from the book too or not..

The book is a somewhat far cry from the lighthearted tone of the movie, for sure...

My Summer Story was based on the non-Christmas chapters of In God we Trust, all Others Pay Cash. It's a pretty good movie. Bob Clark directed, Jean Shepard wrote and narrated it. It doesn't recapture the magic of A Christmas Story but it does have the same quirky vibe of it's predecessor.

As for A Christmas Story 2... So what? Who's it hurting? Those who don't want to see it won't. I might... but only because I'm morbidly curious. I'm thinking it will be at least passably entertaining with Daniel Stern stealing the whole goddamn show.

I hope they make it dark and gritty and show lots of tits. That 80's stuff isn't going to fly today.

I saw tons more tits in movies back in the 80's than I see in today's movies. For example; any horror movie made in the 80's automatically called for boobies to be shown. Today's horror movies are mostly PG-13.

Anyhow, put me in the camp of morbidly curious about this sequel. This is probably only being made to break up the 24-hour marathon they show on Christmas day. Now they show Christmas Story 12 times and the sequel 12 times. In sequence with each other mind you.
