But with death looming just minutes away, would rational people stop to argue? Or would they trust expert opinion instead?
Well, slightly changing the subject. This is how I justify Spock not bothering to put on a rad suit when he enters the reactor room. I figured that when he released the massive build up of ionised radiation, it would cost him his life, whether he was wearing a rad suit or not. Say Spock was wearing a full radsuit, it would maybe give him a couple of hours as opposed to the 10-15 minutes he had left. I just assume that he knew that he could survive long enough to repair the warp drive and saying his farewell to Kirk was just a bonus.
Who knows though, maybe had Spock worn a full rad suit, he might have actually survived? With less than 5 minutes to repair the warp drive though, it didn't matter.
Funnily enough Spock did stop to briefly argue with McCoy, but quickly ended it with a nerve pinch
