Well, I live in New York State, which is not such a big Star Trek fan that they'd finance a real starship. I don't think it can be built. Let's face it, state budgets all over the country are a mess.

You might want to be more specific with your request. I'm just assuming you're not stating something crazy like building a real Enterprise, so are you asking for a hand made model or something?

I think my state could afford a new 11-footer, but the environmental impact study would take about a decade. Then come the permits and liability insurance. And then it would have to be built from 70 percent recyclable materials by a minority-owned contractor. But it's very doable. :techman:

I don't know how a state can be Star Trek fan, but I think Connecticut will stick to the nuclear submarine business.

i am thinking of 330 meters long. the ship will need this in each start with railway , power line, and a old airfield, hyway, 1square mile of land. i need you all to make me a little report if you know where you all know if there is any thing like that?.

ah yes i love that episode where the enterprise derails and scotty can't shovel coal fast enough

If we ever get it in our heads to lobby for another real-world spacecraft to be named Enterprise, though, we should skip the prototype and focus on the first spaceworthy one....

Personally, I always thought naming real spacecraft for a TV show was silly and a tad undiginified.

"Starship Enterprise" aside. All of the Space Shuttles have names that belonged to real famous ships.

The Trek Enterprise was named after a famous ship, just like the Shuttle Enterprise. Not the other way around.

Star Trek fans outsmarted themselves by campaigning to get the first space shuttle named Enterprise. NASA resisted at first, but finally relented.

And then it turned out the the "first shuttle" was never intended to fly in space. It performed a couple of glider landings (air-launced from a 747), and then it was tested to failure on the ground to see how much vibration a shuttle could withstand.

Star Trek fans would have gotten more for their trouble if they had campaigned to get a later space shuttle named Enterprise instead. It would have flown in space.

The original NASA plan was that the first shuttle "Enterprise" was to be modified after the glide test and was indeed going to go into space. It was only after the fact that it was determined that it would be more cost effective just to build a new one instead of completely stripping the "Enterprise" down to it's components and rebuilding her to be space worthy.

Somehow I doubt this will be the last ship to carry the name Enterprise.

^Don't know about the space program, but as I posted earlier, the naval tradition continues....
