42 inches of Screeny Goodness..

I'm living in a new mexico style house with a 30 foot vaulted cieling, one wall is totaly bare with about a 500inch projectior tv screen

Congrats!! The contrast ratio on it is a little low, but that mainly matters if your room is too bright. Keep things dark.

I love my 46" Toshiba. It has a lot of picture tweaks and a 15,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio.

Okay, i know i'm going to open a major can-o-worms.

1. Contrast ratio doesn't mean shit. The problem is there in NO standard on where they get that number.. So brand to brand it mean nothing.

2. I'd ask your wife nicely what she paid for that badboy. As someone who sells HDTV's i'd say take it back. Cnet says it's about $1200. For that kind of money you could get an 40XBR

Generally speaking if the room is very dark or totally dark,(as I mentioned) a high contrast ratio tv will look better than one with a lower contrast ratio.

I've read gray scaling is actually a more accurate, relative way to accurately measure contrast between dark and light images.

RAMA

The there lies the problem... I TV makes can put whenever they want on the box. Just because Brand X says 50,000:1 doesn't mean brand Y 25,000:1 is worse. So the whole idea is shot... Hell some makers condenser the deepest black to be when the TV is off...
