"300" Prequel in the works

"Director Zack Snyder spoke with IESB.Net regarding his planned prequel to "300".

The action will take place between the Battle of Thermopylae and the Battle of Plataea, the battle that narrator Dilios is at while re-telling the story of King Leonidas and the mighty Spartans to a new group of warriors at the end of the first film.

Frank Miller is writing and drawing the graphic novel that the second film will be based on. Upon completion of the book they will start writing a script for the movie based on it.

Snyder adds he won't have any input into the work as he wants it to be a creation entirely of Miller's."

Not really sure how I feel about this.
Is a prequel really necessary?

Will it be called 299 or 302? :wtf:

Wouldn't that be a sequel?

EDIT: Wait, I see what you're getting at. So, it's a prequel to the framing narration of 300 (set at Plataea) but a sequel to the Battle of Thermopylae? That is more confusing than it should be.

Sounds sorta like a sequel. It's hard to say where the Spartans would fit in unless it's Platea. Marathon (the only prequel possibility) was an Athenian affair. Salamis is basically the same way.

I didn't see 300 and I don't plan on seeing this, but at least I respect the guy for letting Miller do his thing before he does anything at all. That's a pretty classy move.

Any action packed historical war film gets a pass in my book, though I doubt it will be as cool as 300 of course.

I loved 300.

No, I LOVED 300.

But I'm still scratching my head over this. So it's like 301 and 1/2? Where it takes place in the middle of 300? Like Lion King 1 1/2 took place in the middle of the first Lion King story? Or does it take place at a battle prior to the messenger's arrival in 300 meaning we could see Peter Mensah again??? (Always a good thing.)

Ahh - whatever. So long as it has Gerry Butler and David Wenham in it with Zack Snyder directing the action again - I'm so there!

Well since it takes place after Thermopylae and leads into Platea, then Leonidas / Gary Butler won't be in it, save in flashbacks to earlier years or something, which I doubt they would bother to bring him back for. I wonder how successful the movie will be without him. Certainly 300's success didn't rely on Butler then, but he's a big name now, and will a sequel missing its star fall into mediocrity? I'm reminded of 28 Weeks Later, another lead-less sequel to a popular genre film. As I recall 28 Weeks didn't do nearly as well, though I enjoyed it (not as much as the original but it was good in its own right).

Well, if there's no Gerry Butler in it...

Unless that's made up for with a lot of David Wenham, then I likely *won't* see this.

Never saw The 300 and refuse to do so. I hate how today's writers take liberties with names, places, and battles from ancient history and mix them up. Audiences eat that crap up as the truth.
