30 Rock rocks

30 Rock was back last week, with a great ep - MILF Island!!
I was on a desert island myself with no internet, but luckily basic TV.

This week was also fantastic. Mayor Bloomberg of NYC played himself! I am not too familiar with him in real life, so I was watching it wondering if it was really him, or a look-alike actor. Checked the end credits and it was himself.

Amongst all the great bits was Tim Conway! I grew up watching him on The Carol Burnett Show, and McHale's Navy, too. 30 Rock had a blurry promo pic of the McHale's Navy I do believe. Excellent, excellent ep!

I love 30 ROCK. It's probably my favorite live action comedy, eeking out over THE OFFICE. It's the Arrested Development of the post-AD era. Thank god it keeps getting renewed despite it's terrible ratings!

Great show, if a bit uneven at times.
I thought season 1 was one of the greatest debut seasons for a sitcom I'd seen in many years. But the pre-strike season 2 episodes I thought were less than impressive. Those episodes seemed to substitute comedy based on mugging and shtick, the episode with Alec Baldwin's prolonged impression of Tracey's mother, being a prime example, for the concept and character driven comedy of season 1.

But these first two post strike episodes have almost brought things back to season 1 levels. The first post strike episode was written by Tina Fey, but this last one wasn't, so things are looking up in the creativity department. Glad to see they brought back Lemon's old boyfriend. The actor and the character are hilarious.

Meh. Tina Fey is so convinced that's she's witty and intelligent. She's of average intelligence and not in the least funny. I guess that's why she shows off her tits so much.

God forbid a woman show a small amount of cleavage, she hardly dresses like a skank. Knee length skirts and sweaters!? I've seen kindergarten teachers show more cleavage!

Fey was the head writer for SNL during some of the only decent seasons of the past 15 years and now produces and writes and stars in her own comedy show. That's her evidence for "witty and intelligent", what's yours? If you don't like her style or her comedy, that's fine, but framing your criticism so personally is pretty immature.

And why would you care about a woman showing a bit of skin, you're the one with the avatar featuring Wonder Woman wearing what amount to a g-string...

She wasn't funny then. She isn't funny now.

Ah yes, the old chestnut that you can't criticize unless you can do better. What absolute nonsense. Only Michelangelo gets to critique art? Only Shakespeare can evaluate Steve Martini?
If having a tv show is proof of wit and intelligence then David Letterman must be the rhodes scholar of the airwaves. Or is that Hulk Hogan?

framing your criticism so personally is pretty immature.

What's personal? On SNL especially, she made it quite clear how utterly convinced she was of her intellectual superiority. She just isn't funny or exceptionally bright. Her "humor
makes that clear.

As for the cleavage, I don't care. Hell, it's the only reason to watch. I just find it amusing that that's how she's marketing herself.

Very funny show. Worth watching for Jack Doneghy and Kenneth the Intern alone. The only other really funny show I can think of that's airing currently now is Entourage. (Sorry, I don't watch The Office. Because I'm a communist. :rommie:)

You forgot to place an "I think" or "It's my opinion that..." in front of your statements.

No, I didn't.
If readers can't tell an opinion from an assertion of fact then they're morons and have nothing to contribute.

And if you think your opinion is fact, you will find a lot of people who disagree with you.

Guys, let's not get personal here. Almost everything in a discussion thread is opinion--some of them are just worded in a stronger way than others. ;)

Back on topic...

30 Rock was one of those sitcoms I wasn't interested in when it first started, but then someone pursuaded my roommate to check it out and we both watched it and loved it. Personally, I think it's pretty damn funny. I love both Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin on the show--their characters are hilarious and I think both have really great timing. The writing for the show is just great.

And MILF Island is one of the best parodies of reality TV I've ever seen.
