3 X 3 X 3

In the TOS thread I asked what was the best run of TOS episodes. It is said that it is rare when a TV series can muster THREE great episodes in a row. One, or two, or two in a row, then a turkey, then another great one....

But the good shows always have that point of time when THREE great episodes air back to back to back....

So..what was DS9's best moment? Or was there more than one..when Three great episodes put DS9 into that lofty point where few shows have gone...before! Masterpiece X 3!!!

If you don't count the season break, I'd plump for "A Call to Arms," "A Time to Stand," and "Rocks and Shoals."

Not necessarily the first time, but one that definitely occurs to me.

^ Seconded...

I found 2X1-3 to be a pretty good arc... tho I guess they don't have to be arcs...
As for when I found 3 episodes in a row that I really liked...
Ummm.... S2x26 to S3x1-2, S3x5-7, S4x25-S5x1-2, S6x4-6, maybe also 9-11? or even 9-14tbh... those were all good IMO... most of S7x18-25... except the Dukat/Winn thing... yesssshhh! X(

For me:

The Way of the Warrior / The Visitor / Hippocratic Oath

I'm calling WotW as one episode as it was originally aired that way IIRC and there really isnt a suitable "break" at the 44 min area. These 3 episodes completely encapsulate DS9 for me... some great OTT action followed by emotionally draining character study, followed by wonderful ethical dilemma. Brilliant Star Trek, all in very different ways.

In season 5 you I find 4 brilliant episodes in a row personally - again for very different reasons:

For the Uniform / In Purgatory's Shadow / By Inferno's Light / Doctor Bashir, I Presume

Brillian storytelling all round, from cold-war-style thriller, to PoW-camp drama, to a real character-redefining episode.

And then in season 7, for just all out OTT action/war/political extraveganza:

The Changing Face Of Evil / When It Rains... / Tacking Into The Wind

DS9 was (overall) very consistent, but there are VERY few shows which pull together long runs of brillaince.

Over 180 episodes only finding 3 examples of your 3x3x3 is a little sad really

Hugo - Human memory is selective and linear. Simply put, a human remembers the best of times in progressive order, beginning with the earliest childhood. The rosy memories are only challenged by nightmares. A Cardassian remembers everything on every level all the time. For us, past and present are not neatly separated. We live with everything in the moment - including the nightmares. And so do you.

Wow..all good selections!!! I like the first three..

But fear not, most shows would have that problem. In fact, I will post this same challenge over at TNG now..so try there...

Blood Oath, The Maquis pt 1 & 2, The Wire, Crossover, The Collaborator, Tribunal, The Jem'Hadar

It's hard to beat that run.

Yeah, season 2 ended brilliantly. I'd say 'Duet,' 'In The Hands of the Prohets,' 'The Homecoming,' 'The Circle,' and 'The Siege' was a good run.

How about 'Through The looking Glass,' (when the Mirror Universe still meant something), followed by 'Improbable Cause' and 'The Die Is Cast'?

Very Cool Thread, I just got out my handy dandy DS-9 Episode guide. In season 7, there was a run of three that I liked...

1) Treachery, Faith and the Great River: Funny, in the series of events that Nog used the chiefs access code to trade and re-trade to get some part for Defient, Sad, in the events that led Odo to spend some quality time with Weyoun and then having him dying in his arms with Odo giving Weyoun his blessings, something I one would never have thought Odo would have done. Finally, in the last scene, Odo and Kira having a serious dialog reguarding matters of the heart and faith...

2) Once more into the Breech: Worf's old friend Kor asks Worf for one last command so he can die in battle, however, Mortok will have no part of it due to an old feud between them. Worf pulls an end around Martok, and give him a posistion on the Rotarin. Kor's has these flashbacks to battles against the Federation, much to his embarrassment. Finally, he finds redemption when he prevents the Jem-Hadar fleet from catching up to the Rotarin.

3) The Siege of AR-558: A dirty, gritty old fashioned battle episode about a group of Federation troops trying to keep control of an important Dominion communications array. Tired, Dirty, low-moral, over extended and not having been rotated out of the battle zone. Sisko, goes to the battle zone to re-supply them, and then decides to stay to help out the troops. Even Quark manages to kill an Jem-Hadar solider, and Nog loses his left leg during the battle. To quote Worf, "This was a battle worthy of drink, story and Song...

I'm thinking about watching the occupation arc this thanksgiving break since I do have some free time finally.

To add what hasn't been mentioned, Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges, Penumbra, and 'Til Death Do Us Part is a pretty good threesome.

Tacking Into the Wind, Extreme Measures, and The Dogs of War, which lead into the Finale is another.

Unlike the other Trek series, DS9 has a great many sets of 3 masterpiece, 10/10 episodes in a row. DS9 is so great of a series that there isn't one definitive set of 3 great episodes in a row because there are so many perfect sets. Whereas it probably would be far easier to say definitively the best 3 in lesser Trek serieses.

All of these are masterpieces, 10/10, 3 in a row episodes from DS9:

The Search Part I
The Search Part II (yeah I know I'll take some flak for this but ah well, I found it very interesting to see how the DS9 crew would react to the situation)
House of Quark

Improbable Cause
The Die is Cast
Explorers

The Adversary
Way of the Warrior part I
Way of the Warrior Part II

The Visitor
Hippocratic Oath
Indiscretion

Homefront
Paradise Lost
Crossfire

Return to Grace
Sons of Mogh
Bar Association

Accession
Rules of Engagement
Hard Time

For the Cause
To the Death
The Quickening

The Begotten
For the Uniform
In Purgatory's Shadow

By Inferno's Light
Doctor Bashir, I Presume
A Simple Investigation

Children of Time
Blaze of Glory
Empok Nor

In the Cards
Call to Arms
A Time to Stand

Rocks and Shoals
Sons and Daughters
Behind the Lines
Sacrifice of the Angels would be here if starting from Season 6 but I can't put it here since I was going from Season 5 and the next two episodes after it are crap.

Statistical Probabilities
The Magnificent Ferengi
Waltz

Far Beyond the Stars
One Little Ship
Honor Among Thieves

Inquisition
In the Pale Moonlight
His Way

Tears of the Prophet
Image in the Sand
Shadows and Symbols

Treachery, Faith and the Great River
Once More Unto the Breach
The Siege of AR-558

Inter Arma Enim Silent Leges
Penumbra
Til Death Do Us Part

Strange Bedfellows
The Changing Face of Evil
When it Rains

Tacking into the Wind
Dogs of War
WYLB (I actually don't think WYLB is anywhere near as great as most fans do but it still was a very high class episode by Trek's usual standards, especially for series finales).
