Back Cover Copy From Memory Beta

Kai Winn, the supreme spiritual leader of the Bajoran people, has never divulged what she personally did during the harsh and perilous days of the Occupation. But now, as alien warships fight to reclaim Deep Space 9, she cannot help recalling those bygone days—and her own private war against the alien oppressors.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the wormhole, Captain Sisko and the crew of the Defiant are stranded on an alien world overrun by ruthless invaders… http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/The_Courageous

I'm upto Chapter 7 in this book. It's starting off a little better, but I really have to wonder what this trilogy is really all about. Considering that the covers for all 3 books depict and mention Kai Winn as the main character of this trilogy---she has hardly been in the books! Her arc is more of a B-plot in the trilogy than the A plot like the cover advertises. The A plot seems to be more about Sisko and the Tiffnaki's, with another subplot involving a bunch of never before heard of recently minted ensigns in command of the Defiant.

And I'm still wondering why Quark is with Sisko in this trilogy. The original reason seemed to be just an excuse to get Quark to a planet that has latinuum on it. Unfortunately Quark doesn't seem to have any real purpose in the story.

I was thoroughly disappointed and bored by this trilogy. I'd enjoyed the authors previous efforts, but this was bleh. And Bajoran politics. Double bleh.

Yep, pretty disappointing. Fallen Heroes was such a great book I just couldn't believe how forgettable Vengeance was and this trilogy was so bad. His Voyager Fury book was one of the rare numbered Voy books I liked. Haven't read Balance of Power yet but can't say I'm looking forward to it.

So far I'm finding the writing is up and down in terms of quality. There are passages that seem to have been written by a pro, while others seem very amateurish.

But the Winn arc is finally picking up.

But in regards to "Balance Of Power", I read it about 9 years ago, and as I recall it was a pretty good book that involved Wesley stumbling onto a conspiracy at Starfleet Academy.

The two things I remember most about Balance of Power are how the running subplot of the crew disbelieving that Geordi had actually legitimately disliked the guy who died and whose things were being auctioned drove me up the wall and the fact that the Ferengi-speaking-like-Hollywood-pirates gag wore on me fast.

I also remember that, with this author, it always struck me as odd that he made such a big deal out of O'Brien's status as a non-com, considering that his portrayal in the show usually treated him as having the authority of an officer by virtue of his position as Chief of Operations on the station.

I read this series a long time ago. It was okay but not my favorite ds9 miniseries to read.

I read the three books last year:

what I liked: Winn Adami as shrewd young woman under cardassian rule and a pickpocket on top of that

what i disliked: many mistakes regarding to the books contents. I don´t blame the author, but rather the editing. Obviously no star trek fan.

And: the reason for Kai Winn taking over command of DS9 is too far-fetched.
