Just thinking about the Lenard Nimoy's role in this movie. Does this mean we will see a little bit of the 24th century (after Nemesis) if we see the older spock? Most of this movie is clearly pre-tos but it makes you wonder how much if anything they will show from the post-nemisis time.

Clearly Nimoy's Spock will exist in the 24th century... unless of course they use X-men style deaging technology and place him sometime after the disappearance of Kirk on the E-B. Perhaps a memorial service for the missing, presumed dead Kirk... "I remember quite clearly the first time I met James Kirk..." etc.

I don't see why it wouldn't be post-NEM. Unless they say differently, or show differently (i.e. TWOK-style or any pre-FC uniforms), I'm going to assume it's after Star Trek: Nemesis.

GEN passed the torch from the 23rd Century to the 24th and this will be the new movie's way of passing it back.

All you really need is old Spock in dark robes somewhere, on Vulcan maybe?

You don't have to put the date up on screen. It dosen't really matter.

Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen (sp?) in X-Men 3, right at the beginning when they go to meet a young Jean Grey (now that was some damned intensive de-ageing they did for Famke in that scene! :D )

Yeah, a couple of minutes of old Spock standing in the desert remembering stuff, then back to the 23rd. ;)

Just have him stand there with hot Vulcanian winds blowing over his old robed and wrinkled ass and whisper "Remember." before fading into the real story.

I dunno. Nimoy wasn't interested in a prologue-only part in Generations, so I've been thinking he may be a bit more integrated into the story. Perhaps (sigh) time travel similar to Kirk's appearance in the aformentioned flick?

    - Seeing Trek In 2008 -

You enter the theater, popcorn and soda in your hand.
You talk to your friends who desided to come along.
    The house lights dim.
Trailers for films you could care less about start.
Well, there might be one or two you make a mental note of.
Trailers end, theater goes fully dark.
Paramount's new logo against a star filled night sky.
Lettering and the silver stars fade leaveing mountain.
Camera pans up to night sky zooming around untill.......

    Vulcan, Day. ( Teaser )

Spock in robes at the Vulcan Science Acadamy.
( Insert whatever joke you like about this being the acadamy move here. )
Spock is speaking to young vulcans about reunification.
( On why it failed or worked depending on the plot. )
Suddenly in the middle of his speech he stops speaking.
Spock is scenceing something far off something familure.
"Spock, help me" he hears in his mind.
( We also hear this, it's a movie after all yanno.)
Spock snaps back to here and now.
He dismisses the class in a hurry.
He then rushes off. His friend needs him.
Just like he needed him years ago........
    ~ FLASH BACK ! ~ ( Act 1 Starts )
Opening Credits In Familure Font And Familure Music.
Stuff happens, more stuff happens, even more stuff happens.
    ~ FLASH BACK ENDS ! ~ ( Tag Starts )
Spock finds himself on a distant planet this is where the voice was coming from, he's certain of it.
On this planet he finds Kirk, who's dazed and confused, doesn't know who he is, like wakeing from a long dream.
Spock mind-melds with his friend, who as a result of the mind-meld remembers everything that's happened to him.
"Spock, Your name is Spock" ( heh heh heh heh heh )
Film ends, credits roll, house lights come up.

Now if that's the plan, woun't it be wize to say Shatner isn't in the film as he's the surprise at the end of it ?

Because it'd spoil the surprize if you knew beforehand.

I still hope that the main part of the movie is set in the 24th century, and the 23rd century will only appear in brief flashbacks.

Looks more like flashbacks to me, I imagine if they had Shatner also as Kirk he could be talking to Spock in a pre-generations time period about there first mission etc.. Now if it were just Spock they could have him at post-nemesis if they wanted to. I just get the feeling that Old spocks position in this story is more of a narrator and as such we may see post St6 ships etc.. the question is what time frame will we be seeing old spock in?

No the main part will be in the 23rd century, this much is clear. The question is when exactly and how much will they show of old Spocks time (whenever that exactly is)

Makes sense to see Spock in the 24th Century as he has aged in the real world and will be hundreds of years old at that point.

What is he doing? I still think he is just there to remember his friendship with Kirk and how he first met, maybe at his funeral? Maybe with some cadets? Speaking to his own children? I reckon the theme of the movie will be friendship and focus on Spock and Kirks friendship, maybe Nimoy felt he should be in it as the script mirrors his friendship with Shatner in the real world.

As for Shatner... I don't know, personally I don't mind if he is in it or not.

If there is a 24th century scene with Spock, I wonder if they'll follow up his story in "Unification pt. 2".

    Probably not...

There might be a quick nod to it. On the other hand, depending on Spock's role in the 24th century portions, it might not be neccesary to mention his activities on Romulus at all.
