Didn't see a thread about this new movie...it's based on the true story of MIT card counters hitting up Vegas. VERY loosely based on a true story, injected with lots of Hollywood cliche.

Anyone see it? I saw it a couple days ago, I thought it was alright, kind of corny and full of holes at many points, but it's at least an entertaining popcorn flick. There's been a lot of anger about supposed racism against Asians though.

What sort of anger? From the previews it looks like there's a asian guy who looks high which reminds me of "The Perfect Score" with Scarlett Johannson.
I think it's ridiculous personally, but the anger is specifically at the fact that the true story is about a group of mainly Asian students with one Caucasian, while the movie team racial majority and main lead have been transferred to Caucasian characters. Sort of that same old complaint about Asian males being disenfranchised in Hollywood and not getting major roles or Asian characters/people getting replaced by white people.
The cries of racism are pretty dumb simply because 21 isn't meant to be a straight-to-film-exact translation of the true story/book...it's just loosely inspired by it so they decided to make the team more multiracial, no biggie...

Oh it doesn't matter much anyways. If it had been mostly Asians, then you would have had people who thought the stereotype of the "super-smart Asian math nerd" was being used.

It's not racist. It's just Hollywood using creative license to market the movie to their target demographic. If North America and Europa was made up of purple people, most of the people in this movie would be purple.

Yeah, exactly, I guess there will always be lamers shouting "RACISM" at any movie for any reason...there's always some randomly offended demographic. :)

Some people seem to go out of their way to be offended, just so they can make a scene/get attention.

I am sort of interested in this because I got to hang with one of the guys in the 2nd team (though there is probably only one team in this movie).

Plus I can shout at the screen "Hey Jude!"

I want to see this, looks interesting. I remember reading and hearing about the real MIT Card Counters and just thinking how cool it was. Though this movie is very losely based on that group of people.

Ahh card counting.

Something I *never* do when playing blackjack.

;)
