2014 DS9 eBook by Paula M. Block and Terry J. Erdmann

Cool. Although an eBook release of the DS9 Companion is overdue; if you type "Deep Space Nine companion" into Google, the main results are people looking for PDF and eBook downloads of it. The TNG Companion was released as an eBook last year.
 
Yeah, I would love to read it, but I'm almost entirely digital these days when it comes to books.
 
DS9 is revived as an ebook series? *wishful thinking*

The new book is probably treating the waters, and the number of ebook-only releases appears to be increasing since TP The Struggle Within. I surmise this may lead to a DS9 ebook series.
 
I don't see what would make you think that. The ebooks have been doing many series lately.
 
Yeah, pretty much since they revived the series post-SCE they've all been standalones.
 
True, but DS9 is currently an abandoned series. While the adventure itself may be standalone, the release of the first DS9-only story since The Soul Key may point to a revival of the series if the book is successful enough.

DS9 is dead, it could be revived - wouldn't that be great?
 
DS9 is continuing in the recent series of books by David R. George III; they just aren't being labeled as DS9 books, perhaps because of some sort of sales-department belief about that series' marketability. But labels do not define reality.
 
If anything, the DS9 story is more relevant to the wider Star Trek novels storyline now more than ever.

A Ceremony of Losses

So that's six books focused either mostly or exclusively on DS9 situations, locales and characters. Add two more for books heavily featuring DS9-originating characters. I'd say DS9 as a series is alive and well.

If you define DS9 as based on characters and setting instead of the label, than the series is indeed alive. I stand corrected.

Let's refine my original assumption: A DS9 ebook may pave the way for a revival of the DS9 brand.
 
I think when people say they want DS9 novels back, they mean that they'd like to see a majority of the original DS9 characters, in a book, interacting with each other. That has become exceedingly rare these days and is one of the reasons I don't like Ro as the captain. Nothing against her personally.

But on the plus side, the end of Revelations and Dust seems to imply that's where the next book is going. We have plots for Odo, Kira, Sisko is in the area, Dax is in the area, O'brien is back from Cardassia, ect.

Mind you, I'm not saying that a ship's roster should stay the same. I do like that some characters have gone on and done their own thing. Its just lately the DS9 crew feels the most scattered.
 
I certainly agree that a return to the DS9 brand and logo would be nice. But that's a marketing decision and presumably they have their reasons. As long as we keep getting stories, I'm 99% happy.

Whereas when the DS9 relaunch first came along, people praised it for being willing to make major changes to the status quo and add new characters.

Besides, the latest DS9 books have reversed a lot of the previous character departures. Sisko, Odo, and O'Brien have all come back into the story.
 
I would argue that there's a big difference between the original DS9 relaunch [and its original characters], and the cast of DS9 prior to Revelation and Dust.

I personally enjoyed the new characters that were added to the roster. We had enough familiar faces that it never felt forced or overdone. But if you go as far to consider those original characters as apart of the 'new' DS9...we've lost a lot of them too. Shar, Vaughn, Bowers, ect.

But, Revelation and Dust did seem to set the stage for a lot of them coming back. Hopefully, a bit more of a focused DS9 plot along with it.
 
But the point is, there's also a big difference between the original series cast and the relaunch cast. Why is one change acceptable and the other not?
 
I really like Commander Blackmer, the new DS9 security chief. Stinson hasn't had much to do except get chewed out by Sisko.
