Riverside, Iowa--Where the TREK begins! Special Announcements

Riverside Iowa, the Original "Future Birthplace of Captain James T Kirk" has Special Announcements to make...As portrayed in "Star Trek (2009)", the 11th Trek Film, the place "Where the TREK begins," has some invitations to all TREK fans!

**Riverside (IA) Area Community Club/RACC is the host for all things TREK in the home of Captain Kirk...You can stop in East Central IA, south of Interstates 80 and 380. Head 15 minutes south of Iowa City, just off US Hwy. 218 ("The Avenue of the Saints"). You'll be minutes south of the University of Iowa, and able to check out The Voyage Home Heritage Center and Star Trek Museum! See memorabilia from Riverside, William Shatner's "Invasion Iowa" special, and James T Kirk exhibits too!

**This March 20th, at 7pm--If you are in the Eastern IA region around then, stop in for some celebration, cake, "Romulan ale", and comraderie, at RACC's Kirk's Birthday Party Celebration! Come have a night of fun at the "Future Bar called 'the Riverside Shipyard Bar', aka Murphy's Bar and Grill, in Downtown Riverside! Check out http://www.trekfest.com/kirkbday.htm .

**Riverside (IA) Trek Fest , the annual celebration of Riverside's Future Son, Captain James T Kirk, has announced the Theme and Guests of Honor for Trek Fest 2010: Theme, "Mirror, Mirror", Guests of Honor BaBara Luna, the Captain's Woman, and James Cawley, the Fan's Fan, who webcasts and stars as James T Kirk online in Star Trek Phase II (http://www.newvoyages.com). More Guests TBA! Come for the Fair, the Pageant, the Rodeo, and Stay for the Trek Parade, the Costume Contest (see also below), and the CELEBRITY MEET AND GREET! Join us for the nation's ONLY Small-Town Americana Festival with a real Trek Twist!

**FINALLY--Announcing, as of this writing, the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS ATTEMPT!! February 2010 saw London set a new World's record, "Most People Gathered In Star Trek Costume."...They had 99 people! Riverside IA's Riverside Area Community Club has decided to see if they can break this record at RIVERSIDE TREK FEST 2010!

WE TREKKIES AND TREKKERS CAN DO THIS!!! The RACC and three regional Star Trek clubs had 37 costumed people in Cedar Rapids in January...This was for a "Star Trek Night" promotion with the Cedar Rapids Roughriders hockey team--and we weren't trying for any records!... So, JOIN US in making History! Come in alien, Star Trek Federation, Klingon, Romulan--any Trek-oriented costume! And yes, even Star Wars cosplayers are welcome--So, fans, lets set the SCIFI COSTUMING GROUP WORLD RECORD!!

I won't be there, but since I've been to Riverside, I just wanted to chime in.

Sounds like fun, but I wont get to go as I'm planing trip to Disney World here in 5 weeks, so I have money tied up in that already. But I would'nt mind going there sometime and check it out.

I am watching Trekkies, and Riverside, Iowa just came up. I would LOVE to go see something like that, but it's well over a thousand miles away. In the interim, I can't even find a Star Trek convention coming to SW Ohio, or even Central Ohio (Vulkon looks like it won't have one this year). I miss the late 90s. :(

^ My favorite line from Trekkies comes from the Riverside piece. "Our party was great. We had a girl here and everything." (or words to that effect) :guffaw:

Still, any town that can celebrate being the birthplace of Jimmy T is on my list of places to visit :techman:

^ Yeah, I missed that one the first time around. Second, though, that was classic.

The Guinness World Record attempt is official, approved, and ALL Trekkers, Trekkies, and related Aliens are asked to come get their picture taken for HISTORY...Leave the record to the Germans at FedCon? Nope. we are going for it! Join us for Walter Koenig becoming the inaugural honoree for the Trek Fest Walk of Fame! Join us in also meeting James Cawley, aka Captain Kirk of the Web's fan series, Star Trek: Phase II, and BarBara Luna of the Original Series episode "Mirror, Mirror." EVERYone Trek-oriented is Welcome, at Riverside Trek Fest XXVI! Again check http://www.trekfest.com for the latest details! Thanks and LL&P --stellarsojourn.

I have to get up there one day, if for nothing else than to get one of those swank beer glasses for my collection :D
