They got the Comedy right. Extra props for nominating Justin Timberlake for SNL.

You know, these "guest star" Emmys, there seems to be no way in hell an unknown can even get nominated for one of them, let alone win. He or she can give the performance of a lifetime in a three-episode arc and William Shatner being stunt-cast on ER will easily be nominated.

And a "Guest Spot" apparently involves the 12 episodes of Dexter that Jimmy Smits was in. He ought to have that one on lockdown, by the way. I'm glad to see Lost nominated again.

It really shows the age of the Academy folks that do the nominating when shows like Boston Legal and Monk get acting nods and True Blood and Friday Night Lights get snubbed.

This really isn't anything new, though.

The Academy has been a joke for a while, this kind of BS has been going on for at least two decades now. (Probably longer. But at least in the 80s there was SOME legitimacy.)

Cool. Lost was again nominated as a Series and Emerson was nominated as Supporting Actor!

Once you start getting nominated for Emmys, as long as your show is still on the air you tend to keep getting nominated (William Shatner for Boston Legal, Dennis Franz for NYPD Blue, etc.) even if there are years where others are more deserving.

I'd like to see Kevin Bacon win for Taking Chance. Good film, and one of the best performances I've seen him do.

Hugh Laurie better win for best actor this year or I'm going to start breaking things. Or people. :borg:

Oh, and Dr. Horrible was nominated for "Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs."

Plus there is a rumor that the cast of Dr. Horrible may perform a song during the Emmy's. Wouldn't be too surprising considering Neil Patrick Harris is hosting. Would be AWESOME.

What a horribly unimpressive list.

I have to laugh at something like Big Love being nominated for best Drama. What the hell? I just caught up on this show, it's ok, but nothing special. I guess it's on HBO, and Tom Hanks is listed as a producer or creator or something, so I guess it has to be nominated

Steve Carell for The Office? Don't get me wrong, I love The Office, but his acting is ridiculous, over the top, and in no way good. Practically every other guy in the cast for that show is more deserving than Carell.

Chris Rock: Kill the Messenger? Granted I don't know a whole lot worth anything in the category, but the Chris Rock special was so far behind the first two in terms of quality that I don't see how anyone in good faith could nominate it.

There's a lot more wrong with the nominations, but I'll just stop there lest I spend the whole day complaining about it. The Emmys are just a bad combination of politics, and 'old fucking shrivs' (to borrow a term from Tenacious D) who are too set in their ways to really try to evaluate things somewhat objectively.

The lack of The Shield is just unforgivable. And the writing category is atrocious. Mad Men got four nominations and the other one was LOST. It's pretty unfair to give four nominations in the same category to one show. Without a doubt Shawn Ryan should've been nominated, and win, for the series finale of The Shield.

Whoot! I'm so happy for Jim Parsons nomination as best actor in a comedy series. He is really great as Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory, good to see this show is gaining more recognition!

BSG's finale, Daybreak 2, got nominated for best direction, editing and sound editing, which, say what you will about the resolution but the last 45 min or so looked like Planet Earth or something.

BEST DRAMA SERIES
Big Love
Breaking Bad
Damages
Dexter
House
Lost
Mad Men
I guess they just couldn't make up their minds, huh? :D Oh well, I'm still rooting for Dexter, but anything but Damages (not that hot this year) and House (snore) is fine by me.

This is the year Michael C. Hall WINS! Dammit!!!! I'd also like to see Aaron Paul win for Breaking Bad.

Hey, no Jeremy Piven?!? Isn't that one of the Seven Signs of the Apocalypse???

Is it almost time for to dust off the old Emmy nomination game and award threads already? Wow, the year has flown by!

As for my thoughts... I am still processing but I see a lot of crap on the list this year. But I am thrilled that several shows picked up some noms and then pissed that others didn't. Mary McDonnell and Edward James Olmos gave some of the most powerful joyful yet heart-wrenching performances of the season and they get squat? And "Weeds" for best comedy? Don't get me wrong, I love the show but last season was way off. The storylines were week and disjointed compared to previous seasons. I also have to agree about Steve Carrell. I love him as a perfomer but his work in "The Office" is very hammy.

But I am thrilled about Jim Parsons! He has become one of my favorite sitcom characters and I hate generic American sitcoms usually. And Bryan Cranston and Michael C Hall are just magic to me. Couple that with Chandra Wilson getting a nod for "Accidential Friendship" and we have some decent nominations mixed in with the questionable ones.

(I know I tend to be a little harsh with my accessments but if you are going to award someone for excellence you might want to be sure they deserve it first. Most of these don't. I guess it really is more about the ratings than the awards these days. The Emmy's have become The People Choice Awards but with a bigger budget and nicer statue.)
